POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for designing and writing automation scripts for the Release & Change Operations Team. In addition, the engineer will help implement automation into our application deployment tools for the distributed environments. This position requires someone who is very detail oriented, has excellent communications skills, understanding of infrastructure operations, application development methodologies and DevOps. This is a position with high visibility, with opportunity for growth.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assist in defining and driving the automation strategy for the operations and support organization

Enable workflow and process automation for high and urgent incidents within ServiceNow.

Design, develop, document, implement and debug technical products and software programming applications

Recommend alterations and enhancements to improve quality of products and/or procedures.

Assist with monitoring tools and solutions to provide visibility into the infrastructure and application performance.

Diagnose complex system problems using dumps, traces or other diagnostics aids.

Diagnose system performance problems using available standard tools and system indicators

Automate the installation of applications, programs and system components so that they can be successfully implemented

Recommend system parameters or configuration variables to improve overall system health and reliability

Write commands or processes for execution under multiple system environments.

Review automation scripts developed by less experienced staff members and assist in modifications of same for optimum performance and operation.

Follow ITIL guidelines and best practices for maintaining the environment.

Mentoring to other operation engineers to bring them up to speed with automation technologies

Create and update Playbooks as work is shifted down to level 1 operations

Identify top tier errors and incidents and automate

Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to be assertive as well as diplomatic.

Some familiarity with version control systems

Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Sharepoint

QUALIFICATIONS

5-7 years experience in event and incident management along with problem trending

5-7 years experience with industry standard web application servers such as JBOSS.

5-7 years UNIX experience (including HP-UX, AIX, Linux).

Strong knowledge of UNIX shell scripting required

Hands-on experience with scripting languages such as PERL and/or Python is desired

College degree in Information Systems or related field, or equivalent work experience.

Thorough knowledge of programming concepts, design, procedures and practices

Experience with administration of source code and build tools, with particular emphasis on:

Harvest, CVS, GitHub

Maven, Nexus, Hudson, Jenkins

Ansible, XLRelease or other similar deployment/release tools

A working knowledge of collaboration tools such as JIRA, Confluence and HipChat is a strong plus

Familiarity with Windows, including access, simple batch commands and network shares.
