Mainframe Developer (Application Systems Engineer 5)

Job Description

The Fee Billing/Account Setup (ZMAN) and Mutual Fund Wrap trading (ZFUN) ancillary group supports mainframe Managed Money applications maintained on the Beta platform. These applications provide for the account setup, fee billing and Mutual Fund Wrap trading primarily for the back office operations unit and Product. Data processed is utilized by many downstream partner applications inclusive of 1.5MM managed accounts, $1.2B+ in recurring quarterly revenues and nearly $500B in assets under management. The downstream and upstream applications include: BETA, Consultants Page, Caliper, BDW, BSD DataMart as well as many others. Responsible for application development in a mainframe environment Responsible for technical design, development, coding, testing, debugging and documentation of programming applications to meet project requirements Participate in planning sessions with the application technical and business consultant leads to analyze business requirements and to develop viable technical solution(s) meeting the requirements Assume a technical lead position as needed for small teams of developers, which may include offshore resources Provide less experienced developers on the team with guidance and mentorship Conduct code, unit test and security reviews Collaborate technical solutions with the team Tech Lead Follow established / changing enterprise development and design standards, guidelines and processes Create high-quality technical documentation Identify / troubleshoot and resolve application code issues identified during test cycles Proactively identify and escalate issues that may adversely impact project deliverables to Project Manager Report project status to Technical Lead, manager, and to the Project manager periodically Interact with IT management and other teams at a highly professional and technical level Work closely with Project Manager, Business Analysts, and Technical Lead to understand and translate functional requirements and processes into technical specifications Demonstrate accurate and complete understanding of system functionality and technical components Provide high-quality consultation to business partners and demonstrate keen aptitude in acquiring business domain expertise Assign development tasks to less experienced developers and onshore developers Prepare all technical documentation related to the release Manage development components of necessary software during the development lifecycle, be responsible for technical design, development, coding, testing, debugging and documentation of programming applications to meet project requirements Be able to learn, assimilate and new and complex technical details and processing. Required Qualifications

7+ years of application development and implementation experience

7+ years of Cobol experience

7+ years of CICS (Complex Instruction Computer Set) experience

7+ years of DB2 experience Desired Qualifications

Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Ability to work effectively, as well as independently, in a team environment

Knowledge and understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC): all phases and types of testing

Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills Other Desired Qualifications Demonstrated ability to understand, retain and articulate highly complex business logic in both IT and business settings 7+ years Mainframe COBOL, CICS, DB2/SQL, TSO/ISPF, JCL experience 5+ years’ experience with Thompson Reuters BETA system 5+ years Brokerage Experience and/or Advisory Accounts Experience Experience with BLServer technology Experience with NDM and file transfers Working knowledge and experience with ZEKE, ChangeMan, Debug, FileAid Proficiency in preparing and authoring Technical Design, Technical Specifications documents Proficiency in reviewing, and assisting with the preparation of, Business Requirements, Functional Design Documents, Test Plans and Implementation Plans Logical and analytical thinker Ability to take a lead role in a project and to guide less experience developers Highly adept in working in a team environment – while being passionate about quality and delivery, tempered with highest integrity and excellent verbal and written communications skills.
