Teacher (Environmental & Heritage Center)

The Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center is the county’s first LEED-certified facility. The 66,000 square foot building serves as a model or success for demonstrating and programming sustainable design, historic preservation, greenspace, walking trails, and the natural environment. The campus is composed of 700 acres of natural woodlands and nearly 10 miles of scenic trails for the public to enjoy.

This part-time position plans, organizes, implements, monitors, orients, and leads children through an instructional program, including set-up and clean-up of equipment and supplies for program activities. Candidates must be effective communicators with children and adults with the ability to transition groups of children effectively.

License and Certification Qualifications:

Georgia certification requirements in appropriate field of education preferred

Education Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in applicable field of education

Minimum Qualifications:

Previous teaching experience preferred
In-depth knowledge of content in field of certification and/or study
Knowledge of techniques for integrating curriculum and effective instructional practices
Ability to understand the teaching/learning process
Ability to infuse technology into instruction to increase student learning
Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office, and school based staff, students, parents, and community
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Effective human relations skills

The Teacher will be responsible for:

Plan for appropriate learning experiences for students based on the curriculum and provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Demonstrate command of subject being taught
Communicate specific learning objectives to students
Link lesson content to students’ knowledge, background experience, and/or real-world application of content
Capture student attention through active involvement
Organize content for presentation of the lesson
Access and/or build students’ background knowledge and experience
Ensure smooth transitions from one activity to another
Maintain behavior that is conducive to learning
Define and communicate behavior expectations to students
Encourage participation from all students
Establish mutual respect between teacher and students
Convey warmth, friendliness, and enthusiasm
Participate in professional growth and professional learning activities
Utilize standard written expression and acceptable oral expression
Demonstrate punctuality to class, to assigned duties, and to other activities
Maintain regular attendance
Demonstrate a willingness to share ideas, methods, and materials
Cooperate with staff and support the development of activities and goals of the organization

Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:

The work involves direct involvement with students which typically requires bending, crouching, kneeling, stooping, standing for long periods of time, considerable walking and may require intermittent lifting of objects of minimum of 25 pounds. The work is performed indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather. It is required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. It is required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
