License and Certification Qualifications: Valid Georgia driver’s license required.

Education Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. College training and/or academic preparation through non-English language preferred.

Experience Qualifications: Experience in human services field, preferably with students and in a bilingual environment. Professional-level experience in another language or in a bilingual environment, work experience dealing with the public in a non-English language, work requiring the use of bilingual abilities, and work experiences dealing with families and children preferred.

Skills Qualifications: Strong interpersonal and communication skills in English and the predominant minority language; word processing skills in English and at least one other language; high level of bilingual ability in English and predominant minority language; and ability to represent Gwinnett County Public Schools in a positive and professional manner.

Primary Responsibilities: Provide family outreach and training activities to the parents of Limited English Proficient (LEP) students to assist them in helping their children improve their academic achievement and in becoming active participants in the education of their children.

1. Performoutreach to parents of Limited English Proficient (LEP) students.
a. Provide training to parents of LEPstudents on the key components of the GCPS system, including policies regardinginstruction and grading, Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS), informationon how to interpret standardized test scores, information on attendanceand disciplinary policies, etc., to assist them in becoming more involvedin their children’s academic achievement.
b. Organize and/or collaborate with othersin the school and community to organize events for parents of LEP students,including literacy classes and ESOL classes, to assist these parents inenhancing their parenting skills and English proficiency and becoming moreactive participants in the education of their children.
c. Organize with others in the school to organizeschool wide events that include and engage parents of LEP students andwhich will assist these parents in improving the academic and organizationalskills of their children.
d. Provide regular verbal and written communicationto parents of LEP students to increase their engagement in the educationof their children.
e. Encourage parents of LEP students to participatein family involvement activities.
f. Facilitate faculty and staff use of the GCPSLanguage Bank to ensure quality communication with parents of LEP students.
g. Assist school in the translation of school documentsspecifically for parents of LEP students regarding the education of theirchildren.
h. Assist parents of LEP students in accessing resourcesto meet the needs of immigrant students in the areas of health, includingaudiological and vision services, nutrition, immunization and general healthas necessary for the academic achievement of students.
i. Assist parents of LEP students in accessingcommunity resources, especially education resources, which may assist themin becoming active participants in the education of their children.

2. Assist with school enrollment of limitedEnglish proficient students.
a. Assist parents of LEP students in completingforms.
b. Translate documents / information concerningthe schooling of LEP students for parents of LEP students.
c. Orient parents of LEP students and theirchildren to school.

3. Support the local school with general interpretationand translation services and perform general school duties as assignedin accordance with guidance provided by ELL Programs.

4. Perform other duties as assigned.
