This recruitment is for Social Worker I/II positions in
Child Welfare Services (CWS) ONLY

: THIS RECRUITMENT IS FOR MULTIPLE POSITIONS. POSITIONS MAY BE FULL-TIME, PART-TIME, MERIT, TEMPORARY, TERM or GRANT-FUNDED. SOME POSITIONS ARE PERMANENT WITH BENEFITS. The term positions may be used to assist Child Welfare in providing uninterrupted services.

BILINGUAL APPLICANTS IN THE SPANISH/ENGLISH LANGUAGES ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY. Some positions filled under this recruitment may either prefer or require Basic and/or Advanced proficiency in the Spanish/English language. If a language proficiency is required, the candidate selected to fill the vacancy will be required to pass a language proficiency exam assessing oral communication, reading comprehension, interpreting, and (for Advanced proficiency) translating text from the Spanish language to the English language and vice versa.

The selected candidate for this position will be subject to a criminal history records check through the Maryland State Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services and will also be checked through the Maryland Registry for Child Abuse and Neglect and federal and state sex offender registries.

Any applicant who fails the background check or whose name appears on either of the registries may be disqualified from employment for this position.

(Grade 23, Salary: $56,669 – $93,863). These positions may be

at the
Social Worker I
, (Grade 21, Salary: $51,651 – $85,399) level.

, this position provides opportunity for non-competitive promotion to the Social Worker II level.

CWS provides a variety of supportive services to children and families to reduce the risk of child maltreatment and ensure safety for children. When it is not possible for children to remain in their own homes, temporary placement in foster care, with relatives or with an adoptive family may be arranged. The following units within CWS provide these services:

SCREENING UNIT is the Child Protective Services (CPS) Hotline that receives calls regarding child abuse and neglect and determines if a CPS intervention is needed.

ASSESSMENT UNIT investigates and assesses reports of alleged child abuse and neglect.

CONTINUING (Consolidated In-Home Services) PROTECTIVE SERVICES provides In-Home services to families where abuse and neglect have occurred.

OUT OF HOME PLACMENT SERVICES provides case management and permanency planning for children who have been placed in foster care or relative placement.

ADOPTION SERVICES prepares the child, who is under the guardianship of the Department, for placement in a legal, permanent family situation.

INDEPENDENT LIVING (Transitioning Youth) PROGRAM prepares older foster children for transition from foster care to living independently.

Minimum Qualifications

Social Worker II
:
Master’s Degree in Social Work
from an accredited college or university that meets the criteria of a graduate social work program accredited by the Council of Social Work Education.
One (1) year post baccalaureate full-time (2080 work hours) experience
rendering social work services. Field placement while attending a school of Social Work will not be considered as qualifying experience.
Licensure
by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners is required and must be able to be verified on the Board’s website at the time of application to be considered for this level

Social Worker I
:
Master’s Degree in Social Work
from an accredited college or university that meets the criteria of a graduate social work program accredited by the Council of Social Work Education.
Licensure

Driver’s License
: Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license when required for job-related duties.
