Job Summary

The Manager of Marketing & Communications directs communications and marketing activities to promote the brand and priorities of the college to stakeholders. Stakeholders include the Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) faculty, staff, students, prospective students, donors, alumni, and community partners.

The Manager of Marketing & Communications develops, recommends, administers, and assesses local marketing and communication plans in support of district-wide enrollment and retention strategies, including: consistent branding, community advertising, college events, direct marketing, and web content management. The manager is responsible for contributing to the strategic direction and vision of the college, communicating the student voice, addressing community needs, and upholding the organization’s mission and values; in concert with district marketing, achieves measurable outcomes in media generation, lead generation, and brand management with allocated resources; fosters innovation by staying abreast of the latest trends, connects with industry members on best practices, and implements changes as appropriate; ensures brand management and compliance with regulations and policies within the guidelines of MCCCD’s marketing and communication brand standards; maintains a collaborative, high-functioning, outcomes-driven, college marketing and communications team; plans and allocates the marketing and communications’ operating budget with the goal of optimizing investments/services.

The manager is a senior-level position that works in collaboration with college executives, administrators, faculty, and staff, and in partnership with the MCCCD marketing and communications team. The position reports to the college president or designee.


Essential Functions

35% – Collaborates with other units/departments to ensure communication and client satisfaction; cultivates relationships with key customers/clients; informs and consults with executive leadership regarding strategy, outcomes, trends, new product development, and continuous improvement; participates on internal and external committees, task forces, and organizations relevant to MCCCD interests; maintains regular communications with client liaisons to monitor progress and satisfactory completion of work; establishes and monitors departmental goals in alignment with the strategic direction; sets and monitors performance benchmarks for team members/individual contributors
35% – Manages a team that executes strategic direction, in alignment with market research, through all aspects of marketing and communications including workload and prioritization; provides leadership and conveys the vision and values of the college to staff. May oversee: development of college-level marketing plans, advertising, media buying, vendor relations, brand management, web strategy, web content review and moderation, content marketing, search strategy, search engine optimization (SEO), mobile, and marketing technology, digital advertising, etc.
25% – Manages and administers college-level marketing and advertising strategies; oversees media buying, advertising, vendor relations, web content review and moderation, evaluating copy for alignment with strategy, and adjusting marketing strategy to meet changing conditions; ensures quality control while meeting established service-level agreements. Develops, writes, and reviews campus-wide publications and reports, responsible for crisis communication in collaboration with MCCCD’s communications team and internal partners, conducts operations exercises; facilitates the collection, design, and direction of college-wide collateral to further the mission of the college within the guidelines of MCCCD’s marketing and communication brand standards
5% – Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in public relations, marketing, journalism or related field and five years of professional experience in planning, developing and implementing marketing, advertising, and public relations programs for an assigned functional area, which includes two years of supervisory experience.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Desired Qualifications

1. Master’s degree or higher in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Multi-media/Graphic Design, or directly related area
2. Demonstrated success in meeting or exceeding departmental or organizational goals in a marketing/communications capacity
3. Experience developing and administering departmental or project budgets
4. Effective written communication skills as demonstrated via cover letter
5. Experience in a higher education marketing environment
6. Experience measuring departmental performance and implementing continuous improvement efforts in a marketing/communications capacity
7. Experience managing large, organizational-wide, cross-functional projects in a marketing/communications capacity
8. Experience developing and implementing strategic plans at the departmental or organizational level
9. Experience developing and executing advertising campaigns
