Linux IaaS Platform Engineer – VP

The Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) Platform Engineering team is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to design, implement and maintain the next version of our large scale heterogeneous Linux plant. The existing environment consists of a mixture of open source and in-house written Perl and Python components which will be modernised and replaced to ensure the continued delivery of a stable and secure infrastructure with increased agility and flexibility.

The Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) Platform Engineering team is responsible for designing and implementing Linux infrastructure for Morgan Stanley’s distributed systems. The group is involved in evaluation, certification, integration, and maintenance of numerous products, including hardware, Operating Systems (Red Hat Linux and Solaris), system configuration, system services (DNS, DHCP, NTP, etc.), high availability products, filesystems (AFS, NFS and various cluster filesystems), virtualization technologies and a variety of in-house developed tools.

Role Profile

We are looking for a strong DevOps Architect with Perl or Python development experience.

You will have experience of managing, deploying to and debugging large scale production environments used by hundreds of system administrators and developers across the globe.

You will be able to write secure, testable, robust code.

You will be enthusiastic to apply modern software development practices such as test driven development, agile, git, code review and continuous integration.

Qualifications


Skills Required

Linux and networking fundamentals.

Ability to write robust, maintainable, scripts in Perl, Python or Ruby.

Effective troubleshooting skills across all components of the plant (HW, OS, network, storage).

Good knowledge of at least one configuration management system such as salt stack, puppet, chef, ansible or similar.

Experience running and/or building highly available systems.

Skills Desired

Knowledge of writing object-oriented code in Perl and Python.

Exposure to modern development tools and practices including git, jenkins, agile and continuous integration.

Experience of building a modern high security IaaS or internal cloud platform.

Contributor to open source projects would be an ideal fit.

Knowledge of virtualization technology.
