North Dakota Public Employees Retirement System (NDPERS) is seeking a motivated student for an internship opportunity conducting internal audits. This opportunity will provide a successful student intern experience with auditing and time management skills, Microsoft and specialized business software, learning state law and administrative rules applicable to NDPERS, and a familiarity with employee benefit programs, such as retirement, deferred compensation, flex compensation, and insurance.

Summary of Work

The student intern selected will conduct a comprehensive internal audit function in accordance with acceptable audit standards and internal policies, rules, and legislation that will provide the NDPERS Board, participants, and beneficiaries of NDPERS programs with assurance that their rights are protected and fiduciary responsibilities are met.

Duties will consist of:

  • Assist with conducting financial and compliance audits
  • Preparing written performance reports
  • Related administrative duties – organize and prepare updates to Internal Audit Resource Binder, Internal Audit Operations Manual, audit workpapers and permanent files

Work Schedule

Up to 40 hours per week (willing to be flexible with school schedule); and have availability to work during the summer months as well as during the school year

Minimum Qualifications

Applicant must be a student working towards a degree in accounting, business administration, public administration, statistics, economics, information technology, or other related area with coursework in accounting. Student must also be:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical program in the United States, and
  • Must be at least of sophomore standing by the beginning of the internship (or must have completed the first year of a vocational/technical program by the beginning of the internship), and
  • Must have a cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale
