Financial Aid Counselor

The University of Mary invites applications for a full-time, exempt Financial Aid Counselor professional. A Financial Aid Counselor is responsible for analyzing student eligibility and packaging institutional, state, and federal financial aid within federal and institutional regulatory requirements for the non-traditional undergraduate and graduate students

Essential Roles and Responsibilities Include:

  • Assists Directors in fielding inquiries, analyzes student data for financial aid eligibility, and performs the basic functions of a financial aid administrator in the delivery of Title IV aid including, but not limited to:
  • Verification of student file prior to awarding
  • Awarding students federal, state, and institutional aid
  • Disbursing of financial aid
  • Return To Title IV calculations upon withdrawal and processing of data of exit interviews
  • Aid adjustments
  • Assisting with appropriate Consumer Information dissemination
  • Maintain FERPA compliance
  • Monitors non-traditional market scholarship funds
  • Coordinates the Federal Work Study Program and internal work contract program under the direction of the Director of Financial Aid. Works closely with payroll office for effective management of the federal work study program according to federal regulations
  • Assists with financial aid events on campus
  • Supports the university in the administration of financial aid within the realm of federal and state regulation, and institutional policy
  • Maintains the integrity of the University of Mary through ethical interaction with students, parents, staff ,faculty, and the general public and through quality data processes
  • Studies, interprets, and implements federal regulations and attends training as required
  • Participates in state, regional, and national organizations for student financial aid administrators

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or related degree
  • Four years of financial aid or work-related experience
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to organize workflow in a self-directed manner
  • Exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal skills are critical as interaction will require times of sensitive interaction with students and families
  • Must possess the ability to present a professional image in all telephone and personal contacts
  • Strong understanding of computer programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access, EdConnect, Jenzabar, and PowerFaids
  • Upholds and promotes the Christian, Catholic, Benedictine mission of the University of Mary
  • Implementation of Ex Corde Ecclesiae , the apostolic constitution on Catholic colleges and universities
  • Builds a culture of ready and earnest hospitality in the Office of Financial Aid and throughout the university in accord with Saint Benedict’s admonition that all be received as Christ
