      BLM is seeking a dynamic and energetic individual to join the team to serve as an Administrative Support Assistant, for the Western Montana District, Division of Support Services. This position is located in Butte, Montana. Information about the Butte area can be found at

      Responsibilities
      The incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of duties including, but not limited to, the following:

      – Serving as clerical point of contact on specific resource program(s) such as grazing administration, environmental planning, cultural resources, recreation, permitting, etc.

      – Maintaining resources files and complete training in order to be able to perform recurring or standardized transactions in various resource specific systems and databases.

      – Serving as collections officer; preparing appropriate receipts, records, and tracking forms; and reconciling accounts receivable, aging analysis reports, and suspense and unearned accounts.

      – Entering and/or validating time and attendance records in the automated payroll system.

      – Resolving recurring payroll issues and audit time and attendance records to ensure they are coded properly.

      – Initiating appropriate personnel actions using the approved automated process.

      – Providing assistance on procedural human resources matters and resolve a variety of recurring procedural issues and actions.

      Qualifications
      For GS-05:
      One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (GS-04) of the position to be filled. Examples: Preparing appropriate receipts, records, and tracking forms; Maintaining files in a central filing system; Entering and/or validating time and attendance records in the automated payroll system; preparing correspondence for office supervisors and managers. – OR – Successful completion of 4 years above high school in any field.

      Equivalent combinations of post-high school education and specialized experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements.

      Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

      How You Will Be Evaluated
      You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

      – Knowledge of automated collection and billing systems, as well as knowledge of all proper procedures and Treasury regulations for handling sales and receipt of funds.

      – Knowledge of automated time and attendance systems, as well as Federal laws, regulations, and policies governing payroll administration in order to enter and/or validate time and attendance records in the automated payroll system and audit records to ensure they are coded properly.

      – Knowledge of human resources regulations and policies, and standardized practices and procedures in order to initiate appropriate personnel actions, provide assistance on procedural human resources matters and resolve a variety of recurring procedural issues and actions.
