General Summary of Duties: This position provides reference, information services, customer service and programming in the library. Manages one or more projects at a time. May manage day-to-day operations in a library. Makes decisions based on published policies, but refers unusual situations to supervisor. Receives supervision from a librarian, a supervisor or the Library Director. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: ( Illustrative ) Provides reader guidance and reference service to patrons. Circulates materials and registers borrowers. When assigned, assumes shift responsibility for a Library department or Library section when the supervisor is absent and the performance of his or her function is required; Responsible for daily cash handling procedures. Monitors and maintains collection. Shelves books. Manages one or more projects. May manage day to day operations in the library. May provide outreach services. May plan and conduct programs, book talks, or school visits. Markets library materials and services. Merchandises collections. Works well with supervisors to develop and implement department goals within overall library goals. Monitors and maintains PCs and software. Helps public sign up for and use of public computers, software and the Internet. Gives basic instructions to public in use of library hardware, software, catalog and services. Maintains facility and reports problems to appropriate staff. Maintain accurate service statistics. Performs ongoing assignments of moderate to high difficulty. Other duties as assigned. Additional Job Duties: Promotes and maintains a high standard of customer service. Performs job in keeping with the policies and procedures of the Butte Silver Bow Public Library. Maintains courteous, friendly, and constructive relationships with patrons and staff. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to work with patrons from all walks of life in a courteous and diplomatic manner. Ability to analyze and perform and/or manage a wide variety of library projects. Knowledge of personal computer operations, operating systems, software and the use of the Internet. Willingness and ability to acquire knowledge of advanced library computer systems and applications. Knowledge of books, authors, current events. Supervisory Responsibilities This is a non-supervisory position, may assign work to library aide, library assistant, clerical, temporary and/or volunteer staff Education, Experience, and Training Required Special Qualifications: Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college required; preferred public library experience. Must be a resident of Silver-Bow County during employment. Acceptable Experience and Training: Some experience working in a public library. Some experience developing programs and managing projects. Knowledge of integrated library systems, of alpha numeric filing, of the Dewey Decimal System, OCLC WorldCat, ILL, protocol, reference materials and methods available to assist patrons. Within three years of appointment, each Library Associate shall have successfully completed 30 continuing education credits or six credit hours of formal academic course work in library science. Such training may have been received prior to the date of appointment. Participation in ongoing training opportunities is required. Training will be provided by BSBPL on-site and off-site in Montana, as well as virtually. Tools and Equipment Used EQUIPMENT: Personal computers, scanners, printers, photocopier, date stamps, book trucks, fax machine, telephone, security system, and other equipment as required. Required Physical Abilities Ability to reach, bend and lift up to 25 lbs. Ability to push/pull a rolling book carts.

Additional Information:
Performs all duties and work assignments in a safe, healthy and environmentally sound manner. Specifically, complying with the Health and Safety Program; maintaining work areas in a safe and orderly manner; identifying and reporting unsafe conditions; reporting all accidents; wearing required personal protective equipment and attending safety-related meetings, training sessions, fit testing, etc.

Performs all duties and work assignments in compliance with project quality requirements.

Acts responsibly and ethically, and in conformance with generally accepted business, occupational and professional standards.

Performs related work as required.
