Accountant, Staff

Responsibilities:
Prepare monthly closing entries for cash, investment and trusteed assets and submit to supervisor for review by established departmental closing deadlines

Review IDS financials with GL Manager and other executives, preparing and submitting necessary adjustments or accruals within appropriate closing cycles

Review accounts with manager and audit team, recording any necessary adjustments and working to minimize the potential for any year-end adjustments

Work with GL Manager, the Treasurer, management, and executive team resolving questions or discrepancies in the general ledger, analyzing any problems arising in the reports provided and assisting in the development of useful reporting

Work with Treasury and banking sources to resolve any cash and investment discrepancies and to ensure cash and investment activity is appropriately recorded

Perform monthly reconciliations of assigned general ledger accounts, submitting to supervisor for review

Ensure all cash and investment accounts are reconciled monthly to source data from the bank or investment company, resolving reconciling items in a timely manner

Compile reconciliations for annual audits, including financial and regulatory audits

Prepare any necessary variance summaries of significant balance fluctuations, working with GL Manager to determine necessary reporting

Assist in the consolidation of IDS financial package for presentation to the board, performing review checks of schedules and submitting report to GL Manager for review

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting or other financial field of study

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and a general understanding of the operation of financial information systems (general ledger, timekeeping, payroll, accounts payable, assets, etc.)

Professional presence and strong work ethic

Commitment to supporting the mission of creating a healthier future for children and women

Ability to prioritize, organize, problem-solve, and manage time effectively

Personal computer skills such as word processing and spreadsheets and the ability to operate a 10-key by touch are also required

Ability to keep sensitive and confidential information private
