Staff Auditor for Accounting and Finance (Entry Level)

We are looking for an entry level staff auditor to work with our accounting and finance department. Ideally this person will have up to about one year of experience, and doesn’t need certifications yet. This would be perfect for someone who got their Bachelor’s and is starting out their career in accounting. The biggest strength will be someone who thinks analytically and can also go outside of the box when required. You should LOVE to learn! Each audit for the University can be a new experience where things shift and you have to adapt. We need someone with a strong work ethic who is interested in audit.
The basics require you be responsible for participating in the assessment of practices related to planning, accounting, custodial, and/or control activities and their compliance with management instructions, university policy and procedures, and UT System and UTHSC-H administrative practice standards.
This is a full time exempt or salaried role. It is eligible for full benefits including excellent health coverage and a State funded retirement plan. It will report Monday through Friday to our University Center Tower location in the heart of the Texas Medical Center.

Position Key Accountabilities:
1. Performs audits of functions/activities/departments to understand the operations and assess the adequacy of management controls to achieve established objectives, compliance and reliability of information.
2. Assists in the obtaining, analyzing, and appraising data as a basis for making an informed, objective conclusion on the adequacy and effectiveness of systems and the efficiency of performance of the activities being reviewed.
3. Prepares draft written notification memos, and written reports.
4. Prepares organizes, concise, neat and legible work papers to document fieldwork, having clear explanations and sound conclusions, with proper cross-references.
5. Applies analytical ability and good judgment by recognizing and promptly advising supervisors of issues, formulating alternative solutions to problems.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
  • Excellent communication, both verbal and written.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications

Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or Healthcare Administration).

Minimum Experience:
No previous audit experience required.

Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
