Transport Manager (Modderfontein)

AEL is looking to recruit a Transport Manager to work in Modderfontein. To manage contractors for the provision of safe, efficient and cost effective transport services to AEL.

AEL Mining Services, a member of the JSE-listed AECI Group in South Africa, is a leading developer, producer and supplier of commercial explosives, initiating systems and blasting services for mining, quarrying and construction markets in Africa and Indonesia. AEL is also the largest supplier of explosives technology and initiating systems in Africa.

Duties & Responsibilities • Take control and lead the distribution activity for the SADC region with the Global Supply Chain team.

• Manage transport contractors and review delivery of transport contractors against agreed service level monthly.
• Meet market demand from a distribution perspective by ensuring optimal resource availability.
• Identify opportunities to reduce inefficiencies to reduce transport costs and continuously improve transport practices.
• Benchmark current practices against best practice.
• Maintain the database on all transport statistics including monthly spend, monthly kilometres travelled, tons moved monthly, number of sleepovers per day, long distance trips per day, capacity utilisation, fleet utilisation and rand per cents per ton per kilometre.
• Provide input into the transport tender process.
• Comply with Safety, Health, and Environment standards, full statutory compliance with legislation around explosives and dangerous goods.
• Verification of transporter invoices and all associated distribution costs.
• Monthly reporting.

Qualifications & Experience • University degree or diploma in transportation.

• At least 5 -10 years’ experience in managing high value transport contracts.
• Comprehensive understanding all of areas of the supply chain.
• Full understanding of transport operational systems.
• Experience in the movement of hazardous goods will be highly advantageous.
• Ability to interact with customers, peers, management and other departments.
• Advanced Excel and PowerPoint.
• SAP experience strongly preferred.
