Product Support Technician (Modderfontein)

DetNet is looking to recruit a Product Support Technician to work in Modderfontein. Provide Technical Support for all DetNet product ranges: during initial installation, develop training material, provide product training and coaching to channel partners, end user trainers and personnel to improve the knowledge base in channels to maximise sales and ensure that users obtains the full benefit of DetNet’s electronic systems.

Duties & Responsibilities • Build long term relationships with Channel partners on mutual trust and respect.

  • Must have sound knowledge on all product ranges and customers’ requirements.
  • Maintain a continuous high level of technical knowledge, electrical and computer based skills.
  • Identify product related problems and suggest creative and innovative solutions.
  • Maintain professional image during all Channel partner’s and end user contacts.
  • Provide technical support to Channel partners on all products.
  • Electronic knowledge: be able to train users in testing and troubleshoot electronic control equipment, diagnose component, circuitry and firmware related problems and how to repair them.
  • Configure Surface Blast Controllers by uploading relevant in-house developed software and conducting audits to ensure that all PC based equipment performs according to company standards.
  • Maintain software version control and upgrades to Channel partners and end user.
  • Conducting hardware and software audits and provide required feedback internally and to Channel partners.
  • Ability to train channel as well as end users in the proper and safe use of all products.
  • Give presentations to customers on topics within his/her scope of work.
  • Provide appropriate information in a professional report written format which is technically correct and professionally structured.
  • Effectively investigate basic causes of control equipment returned for repairs, analyse, determine trends and suggest solutions to improve quality.
  • Continuously sell benefits of electronic initiation systems to Channel partners.

Safety

  • Be conversant with Safe Blasting practices national and internationally.
  • Be familiar with, and adhere to, all safety aspects of the product and its application as well as safety standards and procedures of the relevant mines.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant SHE standards as laid down by DetNet.

Qualifications & Experience • Diploma/ BTech/ Degree in Engineering.

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in an Underground and/or Surface mining environment.
  • A qualification in explosives engineering will be advantageous.
  • Trainer of Trainer Certificate.
  • Must be medically fit to obtain a Red Ticket.

Specific experience required

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the field of electronics.
