Job Duties and Responsibilities

Develop activities and events that will meet the needs of the growing diverse student population. Develop and facilitate educational workshops designed to promote student leadership and personal development. Develop strategies to promote activities and events that utilize both traditional and social media marketing. Collaborate with other members of the university community to promote university sponsored programs: academic and student success areas. Evaluate the effectiveness of all programming efforts. Manage budgets for the programming board and all subcommittees. Coordinate the recruitment and training of student volunteers. Assist in the training and guidance of student clubs/organizations and faculty advisors. Represent the Campus Activities office on university committees as necessary

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Classification Summary

Provides academic, financial aid/scholarship, financial literacy, and advisement services to targeted student populations. Plans, develops, and implements community outreach activities and/or campus recruitment and/or retention programs.

Classification Standard Duties

Answers student inquiries and resolves problems related to curriculum and course prerequisites, referring to catalogues, written course descriptions, and other appropriate sources. Coordinates with other organizational units to process admission and graduation requests and to aid in resolution of academic problems. Prepares form letters, individual letters, and information packets in support of group and/or individual recruitment efforts; attends and participates in individual and group orientation and other information dissemination sessions. Plans, develops, and implements community outreach activities for underrepresented student populations. May conduct recruitment activities for targeted student populations. Coordinates retention activities including student mentor programs, tutor services, personal counseling, and study skills workshops; plans, develops, and coordinates special events. May assist and/or prepare grant proposals to fund student programs and services. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge

Knowledge of student recruitment and retention issues. Knowledge of a range of recruitment strategies and techniques. Knowledge of targeted recruitment principles, procedures, and resources. Knowledge of student outreach services and activities.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to develop and implement recruitment plans. Ability to analyze and solve problems. Ability to plan community outreach projects. Ability to design and develop recruitment plans. Knowledge of community outreach practices.

Equivalency

An Associate’s degree and two (2) years of related experience; or, four (4) years of related experience may substitute for the Bachelor’s degree.

Preferred Qualifications

The coordinator will have an understanding of the value of student activities and of the motivations of the students who participate in the activities. The coordinator will also have the ability to apply student development and learning outcomes theories, and a demonstrated ability to apply the theories in practical situations in student activities and student engagement initiatives. The coordinator will focus upon sponsoring programs which promote student success through social, cultural, multicultural, educational, and recreational activities. The coordinator will seek to implement events that will enhance co-curricular learning, cultivate a strong sense of community, encourage civic engagement, and promote student involvement within the university and local community. The coordinator will ensure that all programs are intentional, collaborative, inclusive, and effectively promoted throughout the university. The coordinator will work closely with the executive boards of the student organizations to create sound organizational structures, student organization management and promote student organization growth and stability. The coordinator will have demonstrated their involvement in student activities as an undergraduate/graduate student.
