Staff Accountant

Job Summary

The staff accountant works with the company’s CPA. They maintain financial reports, records, and general ledgers; prepare and analyze budgets; and perform general bookkeeping.

Responsibilities and Duties

Accounts Payable

  • Pays vendors in a timely manner and keep records up to date; verifying federal id numbers; scheduling and preparing checks; resolving purchase order, contract, invoice, or payment discrepancies and documentation; issuing stop-payments.
  • Verifies vendor accounts by reconciling monthly statements and related transactions.

Accounts Receivable

  • Ensure sales tax is properly applied to all invoices and pay when necessary.
  • Keep a close eye on receivables, having a deep understanding of unpaid invoices and a plan on getting them paid.

General Accounting

  • Prepares asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
  • Recommends financial actions by analyzing accounting options.
  • Summarizes current financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports.
  • Substantiates financial transactions by auditing documents.
  • Maintains accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
  • Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
  • Maintains financial security by following internal controls.
  • Answers accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
  • Prepares special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
  • Maintains customer confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

  • BS in Accounting or Finance from an accredited university or college
  • CPA or actively pursuing certification
  • Working knowledge of accounting standards, along with the ability to research accounting treatments if needed, as well as applying those standards.
  • Strong communication and multi-tasking skills
  • Strong desire and ability to develop new skills quickly in a fast-paced high-volume environment
  • Track record of identifying inefficiencies and developing solutions to improve processes
  • Strong working knowledge of technology used in a business environment to include computers and associated equipment, online software services, Quickbooks, Excel, Word, Outlook, Internet Explorer, ten-key or calculator use.
  • Able to work independently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Willingness to take on challenges and think constructively to solve problems

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $45,000.00 to $55,000.00 /year
