Senior Storage Administrator

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Storage Administrator will maintain a storage environment that is stable, secure, scalable and cost effective. In addition, they are responsible for providing data backup, data archiving and data center / large server room related services across the enterprise. The Senior Storage Administrator will be responsible for network (SAN) performance, stability and troubleshooting. The role will provide full support for the current and future SAN / NAS, backup infrastructure and data center services. They will partner with peer administrative teams on process, standards, and configuration management. Support and maintain all aspects of the SAN / NAS, backup and data center including managing the SAN fabric switches, drive arrays, installing and managing fiber cables, server rack management, installation and cable management. Monitors system capacity and performance and provides Tier 1 and 2 technical support. The Core responsibilities for this role are:

Strategy (0%):

  • Responsible for ensuring maximum uptime of datacenter hardware and peripheral equipment • Responsible for the design and maintenance of data archiving solutions • Work with architects, solution leads and management to engineer enhancements and optimize systems • Ensure a preventive maintenance program is in place

Execution (80%):

  • Implement and support storage and backup solutions • Maintain knowledge of vendor technical solutions in the storage and backup space • Participate on project team as a technical resource • Understand a wide variety of systems and how they interact to provide a complete service to the customers and meet business requirements • Implement solutions to enable disaster recovery requirements • Manage 3rd party data center, server room and relevant hardware/software vendors • Ensure proper deployment of new hardware including servers, storage, backup and switch equipment

Building Capabilities (20%):

  • Manage the full life cycle and maintain currency of the environment • Build and maintain a storage environment that is stable, secure, scalable, and cost effective • Maintain accurate detailed system and environment documentation for areas of responsibility • Identify opportunities for improvements in efficiency and responsiveness, make recommendations and implement efficiencies as necessary • Provide quick and timely updates to work tickets, incidents and outages

Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience implementing and supporting robust enterprise storage and backup environments to attain maximum availability • Minimum 5 years of experience in IT • Minimum 3+ years researching the storage and backup market landscape and dynamics • Minimum 3+ years of experience managing 3rd party service providers such as data center, cloud, cloud backup and storage on-demand • Knowledge of data center management and design concepts • Ability to serve as a technical resource for infrastructure and other projects • Ability to troubleshoot and help solve problems • Participate in 24/7 On-Call rotation • Excellent verbal/written communication skills, strong attention to detail • Ability to analyze and solve problems, think outside of the box and grasp technical concepts • Strong team player who can work across multiple functions and disciplines • Subject matter expert in data protection technologies • Strong knowledge of network components (WAN and LAN)

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience o Note: Sufficient and relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of the educational requirements • Preferred System Knowledge: o NetApp, EMC, IBM, Tintri o CommVault, Symantec o Cisco UCS and Fabric interconnects o VMWare o Cloud Storage: Hybrid, Public, Private, AWS and Azure o ITIL v3 foundation certification o Windows Server, AIX, Linus, Unix, Networking

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience with infrastructure and storage theories, principles and concepts • Experience with the implementation of storage replication such as SRDF, SnapMirror, Replicate VM, or like solution • Good knowledge in the implementation of storage technologies for cloud, open stack and big data environments • Experience managing NAS, SAN, DAS, Fiber channel switches, HBA’s and other storage related equipment • Experience in the implementation and management of the following storage / backup manufacturers; IBM, NetApp, Tintri, EMC, Dell, CommVault, Symantec, Microsoft, AWS,… • Experience working with Infrastructure solutions such as; Microsoft, AIX, server virtualization, IBM, Linux/Unix, Cisco, Palo Alto, • Working experience with managing Amazon cloud storage • Familiarity with disaster recovery and high availability architectures • Analytical and troubleshooting skills • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • A methodical and solid background in planning and completing of complex tasks • Experience using ITIL or other best practice methodology
