RSMAS-Postdoctoral Associate

The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of the University of Miami (UM), Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS), invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position in Physical Oceanography and Climate Dynamics. The incumbent will work with scientists in the Physical Oceanography Division of the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and in direct collaboration with scientists at Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS) of University of Miami.

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral associate with strong background in numerical modeling and analysis of large-scale ocean and atmosphere datasets. The successful candidate will join a research team at NOAA/AOML to use observations and ocean and/or coupled atmosphere-ocean models to study the southward returning pathways and vertical structure of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) and their contributions to the meridional ocean heat transport.

Qualifications:

•Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography or Atmospheric Science or a related field and a demonstrated ability in publishing results in the peer-reviewed literature.

•Highly desirable qualifications include knowledge of Unix and Fortran, and the ability to run ocean or coupled atmosphere-ocean models.

•Prior experience with the NCAR’s community earth system model (CESM/CCSM) is desirable, but not required.
