What You Will Do

This position is based in the Quality and Performance Assurance Institutional Quality (QPA-IQ) group and reports to the QPA-IQ group leader. The selected candidate will be a part of QPA-IQ’s Software Quality Assurance (SQA) team who are responsible for maintaining and implementing SQA requirements Laboratory wide.

The Quality Assurance Engineer 4 (QA Eng. 4) will need to have the expertise to develop and implement process standards and best practices to define, measure, and improve software quality processes throughout the Institution. The candidate will also provide consultation for process improvement in software engineering process areas, specifically the following: project planning, risk management, requirements development and management, verification and validation, test development, configuration management, quality assurance, project monitoring and control, and organizational training. Other responsibilities include mentoring LANL personnel with the implementation and understanding of SQA policies, procedures, and plans and providing Institutional management with recommendations and advice for the development of SQA programs.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Expert knowledge of software quality assurance concepts and principles.

  • Expert knowledge of applying quality assurance regulatory, contractual, and technical documents, e.g. DOE Order 414.1D, 10 CFR 830, NQA-1, Weapon Quality Policy (NAP-24A), or equivalent industry quality assurance standards.

  • Expert knowledge of software engineering standards, especially IEEE and ISO standards for software engineering.

  • Expert knowledge in developing system requirements, software requirements specifications and functional interfaces between system software components and the system-level design.

  • Expert knowledge in working closely with customers to define expectations and mutual responsibilities.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of performing quality assessments, surveillances, and/or audits of software engineering.

  • Expert-level ability in mentoring personnel in the field of SQA.

  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Desired Skills:

  • Demonstrated successful working knowledge and understanding of the LANL QA program requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to review and revise QA procedures and plans.

  • Auditor qualification.

Education: Position typically requires a recognized degree in a technical discipline, from an accredited college or university and, preferably, practical work experience to the degree necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above.

Additional Details:

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. *Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
