Mechanical Designer – Solidworks

About Dorilton Capital:

Dorilton Capital
is a unique family equity investment firm focused on the lower middle market. We invest on behalf of a single European family predominately in the North American market. Working with a single family gives us the unique ability to think in the long term with no set investment horizon while using a fraction of the leverage used in traditional private equity. We work with healthy companies that have strong management teams, where we can act as true partners with a shared goal: accelerating potential by removing capital constraints. The executives we invest in are experts in their fields and have built excellent businesses, and as such, we seek to support management’s goals without imposing undue cultural change.

We work alongside our portfolio companies to streamline internal processes, invest in organic growth, and pursue acquisitions. We consider it a privilege to work with great family businesses, and we believe in supporting their growth and allowing them to continue doing what they do best.

About the role
:

As Mechanical Designer, you will be a direct employee of AUT Solutions. AUT Solutions designs and manufactures automated robotic ultrasonic equipment for the petrochemical, power generation, and aerospace industries. The company has become the specialist in Advanced Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) since inception in 2007.

AUT is in a period of exciting growth and we are looking for an ambitious and driven Mechanical Designer who is passionate about applying their solid design skills to create a range of electromechanical robotic products that will be used across the world. You will report directly to the VP of Engineering and will play a vital role in creating products from concept to production. Your consistent design "wins" will have a large impact on AUT’s overall productivity and success. Below is a glimpse of what your first year would look like:

  • Within 30 days: During the first week you’ll meet with members of the team to get an immediate understanding of the NDT industry and by the end of the first month will be expected to have a full grasp of the design application. From day one, you will be considered an integral part of the solutions engineering team and will be expected to propose creative and innovative solutions. Consideration of design functionality and vendor and cost implications are an essential part of this effort.
  • Within 60-90 days: At least one of your solutions will be positively impacting AUT’s bottomline and you’ll own at least one small product. All support documentation you create and maintain will be written so that someone who is new to the company can learn the essential elements of the documented project/product. You’ll be working closely with AUT’s leadership to align expectations and deliverables, as well as leading technical discussions and conducting product design reviews as required.
  • Within 6 months and beyond: You will be working with very little oversight and will have hands-on accountability on projects from end-to-end, including high-level conception to part design and manufacture for sale worldwide. As the originator of multiple innovative designs you will receive industry recognition and be considered a subject matter expert in designing cutting edge NDT solutions.
