Position Summary

The manager of the Database Systems team is a technical leader who is responsible for managing the deliverables of the Database Administration team, participating in the design, development, and implementation of database systems. Additionally, the Manager of Database Systems is responsible for the development and execution of technical goals and strategies within Information Technology. Performs independently, and proactively collaborates internally and externally to solve technical and business problems. Leads others, either directly or indirectly, and is accountable for the results of the team and/or function. Position will manage an operation staff supporting a 24/7 global operation of internal and external users, technical staff and management.

• Assist with the recruitment process for the Database Systems team.
• Performs technical sessions with team.
• Provide road map, strategic direction and vision for the Database Systems Team.
• Oversees the teams‘ execution of the following duties:
• Responsible for the deployment, configuration, administration, and support of database systems.
• Design highly available database solutions across multiple Database Management System (DBMS) and Operating System environments.
• Perform routine maintenance and optimization of transactional databases and large data warehouse systems.
• Evaluate business requirements and recommend database technologies, tools and solutions that meet business needs.
• Ensure that databases systems meet security, performance, availability, capacity and reliability requirements.
• Design and implement data replication and ETL processes.

Requirements

• Requires a Bachelor‘s degree (Master‘s degree preferred) in area of specialty, or equivalent experience.
• 5-7 years of experience in Database Administration or in a related area.
• Proven experience in leading 5 or more employees and developing technical professionals.
• Manages staff and/or functional areas within IT; leads, mentors and influences others on complex projects and assignments.
• Facilitates design and development of business solutions, which further specific business strategies.
• Solid understanding of the principles of database management specifically DB2, Oracle, SQL, NoSQL to name a few.
• Solid understanding with packaged and ERP applications such as JDE, PeopleSoft, Siebel to name a few.
• Applies subject matter expertise in the execution of assigned functional responsibilities; remains current with Database Systems trends.
• Requires team building and conflict resolution skills.
• Business acumen to balance Database Management Systems Technology offerings/options with company needs.
• Ability to liaise with senior executives and other stakeholder groups
• Ensures department processes comply with regulatory requirements.
• Interprets, refines and applies methods and procedures in accordance with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Information Technology industry standards and best practices as defined by Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd.
