Position Responsibilities

The UX Shared Services team has a proven track record of driving excellence and efficiency through the software development lifecycle at Blackboard.

The Manager, Content Development is responsible for planning and developing content, including text on page, tool tips, help documentation, videos, and graphics. The result will be a comprehensive, consistent, and positive user experience for learning about Blackboard products. This person will lead the creation of user-focused content in and about Blackboard Learn, our industry-leading Learning Management System.

You must be able to work closely with technologists to implement content updates and document features thoroughly. Qualified candidates will share our deep commitment to solving problems for our users.

Specifically, s/he will be responsible for:
Product line leadership

Manage a team of 4 content designers to produce content for Blackboard Learn and related mobile apps

Innovate process and leverage production tools for maximum efficiency

Manage the organization, timing, and delivery of all materials

Mentor other staff members to elevate the overall quality of team content

Content development

Design and develop user interface help, including content within the product and online user assistance for Blackboard administrators, instructors, parents, and students

Create engaging multimedia or graphic content

Standards bearer

Create, maintain, and evaluate standards and guidelines for content design Additional Responsibilities

Assist in maintaining the help.blackboard.com site (on Drupal 8) that houses help content for users around the world

Monitor and report on the usage and performance of your content on help.blackboard.com

Conduct user research to evaluate the quality of the user experience

Prepare English content for localization for global audiences Professional Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in content creation, with demonstrated experience developing innovative content for multiple audiences.

Required Skills:
The ideal candidate will have superior editing and proofreading skills, as well as demonstrable experience writing for web and/or mobile platforms (and a portfolio to match)

Strong understanding of content management systems, web content strategy, information architecture, and user experience design

Proven experience managing a content team (editors, copy writers, etc.)

Able to create and articulate a strategy for content

Can contextualize and organize content in a user-friendly way Attitude:

Strong interpersonal skills, team leader, and commitment to client satisfaction

Passionate about honing his/her skill set, both for personal growth and to produce excellent materials

Adept at managing shifting priorities, demands, and timelines

Self-motivated and able to motivate colleagues across disparate teams and geographically dispersed locations

Holds him or herself to high standards of accountability, owning responsibility around content decisions, timeline, and quality Preferred Skills:

Experience in publishing or administering a website

HTML and CSS proficiency

Previous experience in the education industry or with e-learning technologies Education:

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, with 5-7 years of experience in a relevant technical discipline
