Database Administrator/Data Engineer

It’s a challenging way to work, but our success depends on it We are seeking a full-time DBA/Data Engineer at our headquarters’ in Olathe, Kansas.

In this role, you will be part of a talented team whose mission is to provide technical expertise and performant data solutions to ensure the integrity, availability and security of Garmin’s data. The responsibility of each Data Engineers includes coming up with new innovative solutions as well as keeping existing solutions highly available and reliable. Other essential functions include:

Learn new data technologies and practices
Identify and resolve problems proactively
Analyze existing data solutions and recommend improvements
Thoroughly document work in an organized manner
Communicate in written and verbal form effectively
Perform administrative tasks by following defined procedures
Develop new data solutions including brand new database system.
Provide 24×7 on call support

The technologies worked on include mySQL, SqlServer, Oracle, Cassandra, Gemfire, Elasticsearch, HDP, PostGres, Kafka.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelors’ Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business, or another technology related field.

Other qualifications include:

Experience and/or training with Java and Java Database Connectivity (JDBC)
Experience with no-sql solutions such as Cassandra, Mongo, Gemfire
Experience with Big Data solutions
Experience with any relational database system, such as (but not limited to) MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL
Advanced Windows or Linux Administration skills
Experience and/or training with Oracle database High availability (RAC/ASM/Dataguard)
Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision
Ability to prioritize and multi-task independently in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment
Demonstrated ability to learn basic technical concepts independently
