Component Design Engineer Entry Level

Job Description

It starts with the chip, and it ends with a world of opportunities. As the inventor of the x86 microprocessor, our engineers have advanced Moore’s Law with innovative new designs including the world’s first 3-D Tri-Gate transistor technology. But this is just one step in a limitless journey of innovation possibilities, and we need smart, driven engineers to help us take things even further.

As a component design engineer, you will design the next generation of microprocessors and chipsets to power a wide range of devices from the smallest handhelds to powerful servers. Starting with product requirements and logic diagrams, you will plan design projects and help address the unique needs of our customers.

Your challenging responsibilities will extend to a variety of areas, including:

Chip layout and circuit design

Evaluating and characterizing devices

Construction and checkout of prototypes

Modifying and evaluating semiconductor devices and components

Reviewing product requirements and logic diagrams

Planning and organizing design projects, or phases of design projects

You may also participate in Register Transfer Level (RTL) logic design [in Very High-level Design Language (VHDL), Verilog* and other hardware description languages], functional validation and synthesizing the netlist for layout implementation through auto place and route. Other duties may include working on design validation that involves high-level architecture modeling, devices and bus functional modeling in Verilog* and/or VHDL and/or C-programming, test plan development, test writing, and verifying the model including design using ASIC silicon design tools and simulator.

An ideal candidate would exhibit behavioral traits that indicate:

strong analytical mind with problem solving skills

ability to work independently and manage stakeholders

ability to deal with ambiguity in defining activities and direction

passion for the job

high motivation with a strong work ethic
