Department Summary

Founded in 1998, The Master’s Industrial Internship Program at the University of Oregon trains students in the real-world knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in the industrial research laboratory – and at the interview table. Position Summary

The Business Manager will have direct oversight of business administration for the Graduate Internship Program (GIP) and provide key linkages between internal stakeholders (including the Graduate School, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, the Department of Physics, and the Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact). The Business Manager will provide high-level administrative support to all team members and will report directly to the Director of the GIP. This position requires the ability to communicate and work effectively with staff, faculty and enrolled students and prospective students from a variety of backgrounds and maintain the highest ethical standards in the workplace. The Business Manager will be responsible for a broad set of assignments related to the GIP, which regularly requires the ability to exercise independent judgement. Assignments include office management, financial management, and event management. The individual in this position will handle and oversee all day-to-day administrative duties for the program and will be supervising part-time staff and student workers.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree OR 4 years of professional work experience in business or operations administration

• 2+ years of professional experience in financial management (i.e. program/department budget preparation and oversight, payroll, reconciling accounts, processing invoices, etc.)

• 2+ years of professional experience in personnel administration (i.e. supporting searches, performance evaluations, hiring/termination paperwork, supervision, etc.)

• Demonstrated project management and organizational skills

• Demonstrated high-level attention to detail and follow through

• Demonstrated ability to learn and follow processes, plus demonstrated good, independent judgement on when and how to deviate from processes

• Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills

• Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Commitment to promoting an inclusive work environment

• Proficiency with software and technology, including electronic calendars, word processing and spreadsheets

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in accounting, finance, business administration, HR, or related field

• Professional work experience in higher education

• Professional management experience in business or finance administration

• Experience with BANNER or similar information system

• Experience with complex financial and administrative policies, rules and procedures
