Department Summary

Research Core Business Services (RCBS) was established in 2014. Our goals are to provide financial data and administrative assistance to ten core facilities with a broad range of activity to support the research enterprise of the University of Oregon. RCBS serves Research Core Facilities with their daily business operations as well as external and internal customers, including students and PIs. RCBS has a staff of seven and is located within Research Core Facilities. Our mission is to provide excellent customer services to all of our users.

Position Summary

This position provides clerical and accounting support for the Research Core Business Services.

Duties include:

• assisting with human resource and payroll duties, including making payroll changes, assisting in the search process, processing employee hiring and termination documents, and organizing and tracking performance evaluation process.

• analyzing and evaluating purchase requisitions submitted by the Core Facilities for accuracy; processing requisitions; assisting RCBS Buyer; maintaining records of products; placing purchase orders with vendors; maintaining catalog and price lists and price agreements; maintaining purchasing policy and procedures manual.

• providing accounting support, including processing invoices, journal vouchers, purchase orders, personal service contracts, budget transfers, and travel reimbursements; processing payroll and leave balance reports; working with the Banner Financial Information System and Human Resource Information System to provide reports and data; compiling information for budget reviews.

This position reports to the Business Manager of Research Core Business Services.

Minimum Requirements

• Two years of general clerical experience. One year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents; OR

• An Associate’s degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology; OR

• Graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology and one year of general clerical experience.

College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Professional Competencies

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and other software programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat

• Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in human resource administration

• Experience providing accounting support

• Experience with QuickBooks transactions and reporting

• Purchasing experience including using purchasing practices, procedures and techniques such as determining specifications, placing purchase orders, and processing requisitions
