Accounting Technician

The Second Judicial District is accepting applications for an Accounting Technician . This is an advanced, nonprofessional accounting work involving coordination, preparation and maintenance of court accounting and financial records and providing more complex financial procedural information. The ideal candidate is someone who takes initiative, is a good team player, and enjoys streamlining processes.

Example of Duties:
Job Responsibilities:
Verifies, codes, documents, and prepares payment of invoicing and expenses; refers unusual situations or questionable allocation or funding to manager. Coordinates invoices; purchase orders; researches; verifies and processes payments for purchases and services rendered. Assists in entry of invoices into the SWIFT system.

Process court receipts, prepares deposits and other financial transactions, reconciling and balancing bank accounts, reporting of financial data, and performing related accounting duties.

Monitor and prepare fund disbursements, transfers, checks, and transmittal documents.

Trains, as directed, in specific task and job practices and procedures to improve and maintain performance levels by communicating timetables and quality standards for tasks; and providing instruction on policies and procedures.

Work with parties to process financial court paperwork.

Monitor financial activities and case files by reviewing system reports; compile statistical information regarding financial transactions and activities.

Review of financial transactions to be certain staff are complying with receipting policy, if not, speak to staff on how to correct the issues.

Complete adjustment transactions in Minnesota Court Information System (MNCIS).

Typical Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance or a related field or graduation from an approved high school or vocational school and at least 2 years of experience in bookkeeping, collections or accounting.

Knowledge of collection and bookkeeping principles, procedures and practices.

Some knowledge of computerized accounting, budgeting, and related programs.

Ability to participate in bookkeeping and related accounting work of considerable volume.

Ability to recognize and reconcile discrepancies in financial records.

Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and complete financial records and assist in preparing various financial reports.

Ability to account for and handle large amounts of money including cash.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions relating to accounting problems.

Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with a diverse group of people. Ability to interpret, explain, and apply laws, rules, policies, and procedures.

Ability to work proficiently in Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Successful candidate will be required to pass a criminal background check.
