NDDOT Hiring Range: $3,687 – $4,302 / month

The candidate that is selected for this position may be granted moving allowance provisions in accordance with Human Resource Policy 14.4.

Summary of Work

Maintain radio base stations, mobile and handheld radios for NDDOT, law enforcement (state radio and highway patrol): Service and maintain base and receiver equipment to the component level for optimum performance. Service, analyze and maintain interconnect equipment and associated phone lines. Service tower lighting and supervisory signaling equipment. Service the standby equipment and transfer panels. Inspect antennas and lines for defects. Maintain LP tank, furnace, building and grounds. Maintain logs and records of work completed. Calibrate and adjust 2-way radios to meet FCC requirements. Program radio frequencies utilizing radio operations software via computer. Maintain radio inventory on database, consult with Tech III or Analyst on advanced problems or troubleshooting. Approximately 40 percent of time will be spent on this duty.

Maintain statewide network infrastructure and associated support equipment: Maintain servers, hubs, modems and ancillary support equipment. Install and maintain data lines from hubs to end users. Install and maintain PCs, printers, and all associated peripherals. Install upgrades and assist the help desk with end user proper operation. Perform scheduled routine preventive maintenance to insure optimum performance. Assist analyst with system design and integration. Approximately 35 percent of time will be spent on this duty.

Installation and servicing of automatic traffic recorders/classifiers and weigh and motion equipment, Environmental Sensor Station (ESS) and Dynamic Messaging Sign (DMS): Troubleshoot connectivity problems and report as required. Install, maintain and repair devices. Assist Tech III and Analysts with new site installations. Work with contractors on warranty repairs and acceptance testing. Approximately 15 percent of time will be spent on this duty.

Maintain, install and service telephones for DOT, drivers license and highway patrol; repair/report as necessary: Analyze, diagnose, and report to ITD, telephone and line problems at district offices, section buildings, construction sites, Automatic Traffic Reporters (ATR), classifiers and weather monitoring equipment; install, maintain and repair telephones for use at temporary construction sites. Maintain and repair telephones at section buildings. Work with local telephone companies and network carrier to diagnose and repair telephone problems relating to standard telephone lines and special backhaul circuits for State Radio 911 Dispatch. Assist Analyst in troubleshooting difficult problems. Approximately 5 percent of time will be spent on this duty.

Identify and repair assorted non-radio electronic equipment problems; repair/report as necessary: Service light bars, video cameras and radar equipment for highway patrol. Maintain and repair electronic signal lighting and signboards. Troubleshoot/repair shop and/or lab equipment on request and make recommendations on repair or replacement. Approximately 5 percent of time will be spent on this duty.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires an associate degree or equivalent diploma from an accredited two-year college in telecommunications (data, voice, or video), electronics technology, or a closely related field and two years of work experience installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining telecommunications equipment. The employing agency, at its discretion, may substitute additional technical work experience for the formal education requirement. The amount and type of work experience that can be substituted will be defined by the employing agency at the time of recruitment.

Requires satisfactory completion of the interview process and a verifiable record of satisfactory performance in previous employment.
