Technical Project Manager

Every day, people on all continents watch television programs prepared, managed and broadcast by Red Bee Media staff. Every year, the business delivers more than 2.7 million hours of programming in more than 60 languages for nearly 600 TV channels.

RedBee Data Services use a number of bespoke systems to aid planning and production of Subtitling, Audio Description and Sign Language Translation output, and the role of the project manager is to support their development and use.

The Project Manager will be responsible for working with 3rd party organisations and internal DevOps Architects / Engineers and product teams to support the design, implementation and delivery of various platforms within Data Services including, but not exclusive to, the Subito suite of applications (Live, Vault, C&D Engine, Sentinel and Connect), Plan Bee (Global planning system), RIT (Resource Integration Tool), and various file production tools to facilitate subtitling, including platforms incorporating Automated Speech Recognition technologies.

The role will require administering the product’s development from gathering user requirements through development to deployment into test and production environments. Additionally, the role will require integration with related systems (e.g. client scheduling software, production software) and for ensuring optimal configuration is achieved for use in production

The Project Manager will also have responsibility for ensuring systems are handed over successfully and deployed internationally.

In practical terms, this role will requires an active technical understanding and working knowledge of AWS, Jenkins, Puppet, Kubernetes, Jira, along with more a generic understanding of Networking/firewalls and Software Development


Job Purpose

The Programme Management and Operational Excellence Team is charged with delivering technical and operational projects to all Access Services sites globally. In context this includes UK, Europe (France, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands), Australia and USA. An experienced Project Manager is required within the team to lead multiple production system and business change projects, relating to the strategic development and transformation of Access Services. The role will have the following responsibilities:


Project Leadership and Governance Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and the driving force for project teams, drawing on skills from central Technology and other key business areas
  • Engage operational subject matter experts within a context of competing priorities and rapid change
  • Responsible for the application of best practice in project management techniques and methodology, within the framework of the existing Access Services process
  • Responsible for delivering the overall required business benefit, through a combination of technical change and people/process change
  • Responsible for robust risk management policies to reduce the likelihood of failure
  • Responsible for regular reports of progress against key performance indicators targeted at continuous improvement in project delivery
  • Build strong and effective teams able to meet the demands of the project in hand
  • Ensure the handover of projects to central Operation, Technology and AS Tech to agreed standards and criteria


Financial Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the management of the project budgets including the monthly reporting of actual and forecast
  • Tracking and reporting on planned benefits as defined during project initiation stage
  • Communications Responsibilities
  • Devise and implement effective stakeholder communication strategies designed to engage, inform and influence, particularly the ‘Client’ of the project
  • Present confident and clear information and data to every level of the organisation and client as required
  • Own and manage key relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop relationships with the Access Services teams ensuring that projects deliver their required business benefits


Key Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent technical skills, suited to understanding and leading technical colleagues through the development and deployment of new cloud-based products. Detailed experience with continuous deployment and continuous improvement would be beneficial.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of inspiring a shared vision with tact and diplomacy across a wide range of abilities, personalities and experience, both technical and operational.

  • Willing and able to support a culture of continuous improvement within Access Services, including the identification of efficiency or service improvements and the sharing of ideas
  • Strong PC skills with an excellent knowledge of the MS Office suite, especially Excel and Project.
  • Ability to travel, maintaining high levels of work and good relationships on a number of sites.


Key Relationships

  • The Project Manager reports into the Access Services Core Platforms Lead.
  • Some of the projects to be undertaken may require a degree of matrix management by an Emerging Platforms lead or the Deployment Lead within the Access Services team.
  • The role will lead teams from across the centralised Technology Delivery matrix and Access Services business unit, to success.
  • The role will work closely with central Technology Operations teams and AS Tech (Access Services own technology function) to ensure a smooth handover of any new solutions or services to Business As Usual (BAU) technology services.
