Title: Systems Engineer

Job Description: The Systems Engineer will work closely with sales Account Managers in a pre-sales technical role configuring products to meet specific customer needs, showcasing product solutions, setting up product demonstrations, and explaining features and value of technology solutions to customers. The Systems Engineer will be a key partner in the sales cycle and interact with customers both over the phone and on site. Additionally, the Systems Engineer will identify and troubleshoot issues related to client devices, wireless and wired networking, servers, storage, and data centers for both customers and internally.

Required Technical Skills: The Systems Engineer should possess a strong aptitude and understanding of a wide breadth of information technology, products, tools, and solutions. At a minimum, the Systems Engineer should have familiarity with the following hardware technologies:

  • Servers – Dell, HP
  • Virtualization – VMware ESXi 5.0+, VMware View 5.0+, Microsoft Hyper-V 2008R2+, Citrix
  • Storage- Dell EqualLogic, Nimble, Dell Compellent, NetApp, HP, iSCSI, FCoE, 1G/10G/40G
  • Networking – Cisco, LAN, WAN, SAN, Internet, Intranet, Extranet, VPN
  • Systems Management – Dell KACE

Prior experience and knowledge of the following vendors is also desired: Dell, HP, Lenovo, Fujitsu, Cisco, Force10, EqualLogic, Nimble, VMware, KACE, SonicWall, Compellent, NetApp, and Citrix.

Experience using a variety of imaging and cloning software is also highly desired. Example products include Microsoft WDS, CloneZilla, Fog, Paragon HDM, Acronis, and Symantec Ghost.

Required Education/Experience: The Systems Engineer should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a Systems Engineer or related role. A four-year technical degree or military service is required; however, significant industry experience in lieu of a degree or military service is acceptable. The Systems Engineer should also have industry training and certifications. Any certifications that demonstrate knowledge and expertise in the technologies listed will be of added value. Such certifications include: A+/Net+, VCP, MCSE/MCSA, CCNA/CCDEA/CCDP/CCIE, CNE, PMI/PMP, or CCSA.

  • Able to comprehend, understand, and confidently articulate technology solutions and how they best apply to customers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to apply critical thinking and empirical evidence to solve problems.
  • Able to clarify and assimilate information from different sources into a unified communication.
  • Able to learn quickly and stay abreast of leading technologies from a range of manufacturers.
  • Understanding of desktop/application and server virtualization technologies.
  • Experience working with Linux and Microsoft Windows.
  • Network protocol understanding and troubleshooting skills.
  • Intermediate project management skills preferred.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Account Managers to develop product solutions to meet the requirements of customers gathered in meetings both over the phone and in person.
  • Confidently articulate features and value of technology solutions to customers.
  • Configure products according to specifications.
  • Set up product demonstrations for customers.
  • Develop and perform technical presentations to customers, partners and prospects.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues related to client devices, wireless and wired networking, servers, storage, and data centers at customer sites.
  • Participate regularly in industry training and seek and maintain certifications to keep up-to-date on relevant competitive solutions, products and services.
  • Develop simple scripts to adapt product behavior to specific needs.
  • Computer system cloning and imaging utilizing different products – Microsoft WDS, CloneZilla, Fog, Paragon HDM, Acronis, Symantec Ghost.
