Staff Accountant

Title: Staff Accountant

Department: Administrative Services/Finance

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Staff Accountant will report directly to the Assistant Controller. Staff accountants will assist with general accounting support functions including the preparation of reconciliations, period closes, projections, reports, assistance with the general ledger and will need to know and apply accounting theory and principles, and ensure observance of professional standards and state rules including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Governmental Accounting Standards, Higher Education Accounting Standards, State Fiscal Rules, CCCS and College procedures. The Staff Accountant will also need to know, understand and apply financial aid and other grant rules, regulations, and guidance.

Some responsibilities include but are not limited to providing professional level support to the Controller and Assistant Controller in all areas of grant management and financial aid, including ensuring the general ledger properly reflects grant and financial aid activity on an accrual basis, performing reconciliations, preparing reports, processing payroll re-allocations, and meeting regularly with departments and assigned grant managers; performing all travel related functions for Fiscal Services, including issuing travel authorization numbers for all staff, book lodging reservations as requested, manage the travel card program, reconcile all travel expense reimbursement requests and any mileage reimbursement requests; and performing general accounting support functions including processing various general ledger transactions, preparing numerous reconciliations, invoices as needed, monitoring and clearing diagnostic/exception reports, monthly, quarterly, and year end closes, and assist in preparation of schedules and other items for internal or external audit purposes and year-end financial reporting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and one (1) year of technical/professional experience in accounting OR five (5) years of technical/professional experience in accounting OR any combination of applicable secondary education and experience to equal five years.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of Accounting Principles Generally Accepted in the United States of America (GAAP).

Effective computer skills, especially in the use of Excel spreadsheets.

Strong communication, analytical, organizational, and people skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience :
Accounting or other experience related to financial aid and other grants.

Experience with higher education or governmental financial reporting (GASB).

Experience working with Banner and/or Colorado Operations Resource Engine (CORE).

Experience working with cross-functional teams.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Working knowledge or familiarity with Banner and/or Colorado Operations Resource Engine (CORE).

Demonstrated ability in problem solving, multitasking and time management.

SALARY: $3,916.86 monthly
