Specifications Consultant – Engineering

The Position

• Specification Consultants at Avitru can wear many hats

  • Partnering with Architects/Engineering firms to develop project specifications

  • Working with manufacturers to develop specifications for their emerging products and systems

  • Updating and expanding our SpecText library (technically correct, reliable specifications for infrastructure projects)

• Day-to-Day may require:

  • Writing technical descriptions specifying material qualities and properties

  • Leveraging knowledge of material standards, construction processes or manufacturing procedures

  • Conducting quality reviews of products, sections, and construction documents

  • Interpreting architectural, engineering and interior design plans

  • Writing nonproprietary master specifications according to the Avitru Master Guide Writer’s Manual and following CSI specification writing principles and formats

  • Respond to technical & editorial reviews and questions, and provide rationale for rejecting comments and answer questions

  • Help guide evaluation and final disposition of requests from building product manufacturers on the suitability of the product inclusion based on strong technical argument grounded in expertise

  • Working from startup checklists to prepare construction specifications to be used by contractors related to building construction activities

  • Analyzing plans and details or diagrams, observing and making notes on materials to prepare specifications for construction activities

  • Preparing project manuals with acute familiarity with contract documents that can be easily interpreted and used by contractors

  • Coordinating and tracking progress/bid set submissions and assuring that documents are ready for printing/distribution

Skills/Experience

• 2+ year’s experience in engineering, engineering technology, or another construction-related field is preferred

• Must have experience working in prior building construction settings, including but not limited to architecture firms, architecture-engineering firms, construction management or specification consulting, or program management firms

• Excellent interpersonal skills, working with others in a team setting, communicating directly with customers

• Must have the ability to juggle multiple projects at the same time

• LEED AP and/or any CSI level of certification is preferred

• Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, and familiarity with AutoCAD/Revit

• Masterworks or e-SPECS experience & BIM-related background also preferred

• Prior experience with public clients and their projects is also a plus
