Engineering Specification Writer

Key Outcomes

Reporting directly to the Head of Content Development the Engineering Specification Writer, as a master guide specification writer, will play a key role in developing and updating SpecText guide specifications for horizontal construction. In this capacity, the candidate will have the following responsibilities:

• Write nonproprietary master specifications according to the Avitru MasterGuide Writer’s Manual and following CSI specification writing principles and formats.

• Drive and document technical research for development of specification sections including: product literature, manufacturers’ web sites, industry standards, trade association and professional society publications, reference materials, and model building codes.

• Respond to technical & editorial reviews and questions, and provide rationale for rejecting comments and answer questions.

• Make presentations and write thought leadership pieces related to the subject matter of assigned specification sections.

• Help guide evaluation and final disposition of requests from building product manufacturers on the suitability of the product inclusion based on strong technical argument grounded on the technical leadership in area of expertise.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree required in Engineering or other related engineering disciplines

• 10 years’ writing construction specifications in the office of a design professional, as specification consultant, or at ARCOM, and 3-5 years’ hands-on experience editing MASTERSPEC or SpecText or comparable guide specifications

• Must be a Registered Professional Engineer

• CCS preferred

• Strong communication skills written and oral

• Experience dealing with various clients and fostering a positive relationship with these parties

• Experience with infrastructure projects, particularly water and wastewater preferred
