Position: Senior Software Engineer

Reports to: Senior Manager, Software Development

Location: Manchester, NH or Cambridge, MA

Job Summary:

This individual will be a senior member of the Engineering organization supporting the Oracle + Dyn DNS platform. Primarily focused on delivering the implementation of our next-generation DNS and cloud platform integration. Day-to-day activities will range from leading design and discovery discussions, reviewing roadmap with stakeholders, prototyping, and hands on software development. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and possess a wide range of skills and experience. This individual should have the ability to understand business needs, work closely with product owners and strike a good balance between business goals and technical implementations. This individual will also be fairly autonomous and be expected to contribute to a wide range of high-impact projects across the organization.

Major Duties:

Design, develop, implement and support Oracle + Dyn DNS, Backend APIs and various other components.

Hands on software development at scale.

Develop code which scales to billions of Queries per second.

Analyze & interpret business needs to develop technical specs and design

Evaluate various implementations to determine compliance with business needs and external specifications.

Perform troubleshooting and coordinate problem resolution activities with engineering and support teams.

Establish and maintain productive relationships with peer organizations.

Providing review and input to business needs, and using those to develop technical needs, and eventually deployable systems.

Participate in / oversee the testing and certification process as needed.

Some travel involved with this position.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent in work experience and self-study.

Advanced degree is a plus.

Qualifications:

Should be able to take high level architectures and convert into reality and detailed design

Demonstrated ability to deliver the items listed in the major duties section.

At least 5 years experience in application development. Specific experience with scaling backend data systems and DNS services

Expertise in C, C++, GO, Java, Python (two or more preferred)

Knowledge of databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle RAC

Knowledge of caching servers such as Varnish or Nginx

Knowledge of Internet protocols and standards, including DNS, DNSSEC, REST, SSL and HTTP

General knowledge of the following categories of network systems: Multiprocessing, Threading, Distributed systems, Load Balancing and High Availability.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to work with minimum direction.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively across organizational boundaries and within groups.

Should be a flexible, resourceful, team player that is able to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.

Creative thinking and critical analysis are essential.

Detailed Description and Job Requirements

Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will assist in defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, debugging or designing of software applications or operating systems. Provide technical leadership to other software developers. Specify, design and implement modest changes to existing software architecture to meet changing needs.

Duties and tasks are varied and complex needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.
