Department Mission:

The Information Services Security unit of the Division of Employment Security (DES), Information Services Security provide security and compliance services to protect DES data and assets from internal and external threats by lowering risk to an acceptable level.

Description of Work:
This position works within the Information Services Security unit, which provides security and compliance services to protect the Division of Employment Security data and assets from internal and external threats by lowering risk to an acceptable level. The purpose of the Security Analyst position is to monitor, configure, maintain and administer security systems to protect the DES data and assets. This individual will also plan, coordinate and implement security measures for information systems to regulate access to computer data files and prevent unauthorized modification, destruction or disclosure of information. This position will collaborate and work across Information Services teams to share information, implement new systems and improve existing systems. Additionally, the position will support security for systems that require a full-time employee to meet federal regulations. This employee will also have duties in assisting the Chief Information Security Officer in the strategic and tactical development and implementation of the agency’s risk management, business continuity planning and disaster recovery plans.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Knowledgeable in system reviews/audits while administrating security policies, activities, and standards in accordance with Federal, State and Departmental regulations and policies.
  • Ability to discover, evaluate, and follow up on vulnerabilities in the environment through vulnerability scanning.
  • Knowledgeable in security using best practice in NIST.
  • Knowledgeable in network and security infrastructure and software, including firewalls (IPS and IDS) up to layer 7, SIEM, MFA, DNS security and associated network protocols and concepts.
  • Knowledgeable in IT controls available to enforce the CIA tenets of confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
  • Ability to recognize security incidents and assist with incident response and security breaches.
  • Ability to work with teams to prioritize security needs and to effectively generate cooperation from IT professionals to implement security controls.
  • Ability to work with senior management to ensure security and data protection rules and regulations are in place for protection of personal identifiable information (PII).
  • Management Preferences:

  • Knowledgeable of network/systems controls, patching and migration of vulnerabilities
  • Knowledgeable of AWS cloud security controls
  • Knowlege of IRS Publication 1075
  • Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

    Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or an Information Security degree or closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year experience in IT Security; or Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in IT Security or closely related area; or

    Associate’s degree in Information Systems Security from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in IT Security or closely related area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
