Research Pharmacy Technician

Description

Under the direct supervision of a research pharmacist, prepares, compounds, and distributes drugs issued by the Investigational Drug Service (IDS) for ongoing research studies.
  • Prepares chemotherapy IV doses and non-chemotherapy IV doses in accordance with guidelines of each investigational protocol.
  • Performs aseptic technique assessment for staff and maintains documentation. Coordinates requirements for aseptic technique as it pertains to IDS.
  • Manages drug inventory which includes ordering and receiving investigational agents, conducting cycle counts and checking and processing expired inventory.
  • Processes drugs for destruction which includes removal from inventory and completion of destruction paperwork.
  • Documents patient returns by receiving and entering returns in Vestigo.
  • Files paperwork for investigational drug studies which includes patient drug orders, shipping invoices, communication with the sponsor, patient returns, and documentation of drugs returned to the sponsor or destroyed locally.
  • Assists in cleaning and maintenance of IV hoods, daily temperature checks and recording in SIMPLIFI.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
:
  • High school diploma with some college preferred.
  • Certification as a Hospital Pharmacy Technician by completion of an accredited technician training program or by national exam, or current enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy.
  • 2 years of pharmacy technician experience in a hospital setting.
