Pediatric Specialty Scheduler (14189B)

The Division of Pediatric Clinical Enterprise at the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Pediatric Specialty Scheduler. The Pediatric Specialty Scheduler will answer phones and triage patient concerns in a fast-paced, team environment. We are seeking detail-oriented, high-performing individuals who love to learn. COMPENSATION: $12.84 – $18.62/hour DOE. Strong benefit package including tuition reduction program, retirement and health plan options.

WORK SCHEDULE: Full time, 40 hours/week, MondayFriday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m .

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Answer and triage a high volume of incoming calls from parents, physicians, pharmacies, labs, etc.
  • Quickly and effectively switch between calls and other assigned tasks.
  • Schedule and register patients in Epic for multiple divisions in the Department of Pediatrics, including complex coordination of various specialties and testing.
  • Correspond via email, phone, and Electronic Medical Records with department physicians and staff.
  • Maintain and utilize organized work lists, including reminder calls, wait lists, referrals, registration, insurance verification, and filling clinics.
  • Comply with Federal and University privacy guidelines (including HIPAA) in entering health information into Electronic Medical Records.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • QUALIFICATIONS: One year of continuous office experience or equivalency; basic computer skills; and successful completion of a medical terminology course provided by the hospital within the first year of employment required. Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills are also required.

    Experience with ICD-9 and CPT 4 coding may be preferred. One year experience in patient registration, admitting or related work may be preferred. Care is appropriate to the population served.

    PREFERENCES:

    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and ability to navigate four to eight concurrent computer programs effectively
    • Typing speed of 40 WPM or more
    • Medical office scheduling and phone customer service experience preferred
    • Fluent Spanish speaking skills
    • Epic skills and medical terminology strongly preferred
    • Ability to use ten-key by touch
