Patient Care Coordinator

Chief Purpose of the Position:

The Patient Care Coordinator will be part of VCU Dental Care’s multi-specialty Practices. The Patient Care Coordinator is largely responsible for the ideal patient experience, collection, schedule management and appointment coordination. Responsibilities include:

· Coordinating appointments and specialties

· Collecting payments

· Acting as liaison between providers/manager and patients

· Obtaining dental insurance information from all patients of the clinics, to contact insurance companies to determine benefits, and to integrate patients’ plan benefits with their electronic records.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:

Patient Care Coordinators must have exquisite verbal skills for building value, selling the new patient assessment, taking deposits and overcoming objections.

Additional KSAs needed to excel in this position are:

· Dental knowledge and, more importantly, an understanding of the dental philosophy of the dentist

· Excellent communication skills

· Organized, systematic and with good follow-through

· Knowledge of the dental insurance processes and to help patients use and understand their benefits

· Confident personality

· Comfortable with quoting complete treatment plan fees and asking for the patient to commit to a payment

· Positive attitude and enthusiasm

· Ability to think on his or her feet, spontaneously and with little preparation

· Commitment to improving sales skills

· Knowledge of dental office administrative procedures and principles of dental office record keeping

· Basic computer knowledge

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Ability to work as part of a team

· Ability to consistently deliver high level of customer service

Education level and experience required:

· High school diploma or equivalent required

· College preferred

· Minimum two years of Dental office patient care/front desk experience required

· Insurance verification/coordination

· CPR certification preferred

Hiring Range: $16 – 19 per hour, based on relevant work experience.
