CHI St. Alexius Health offers a comprehensive line of inpatient and outpatient medical services, including: a Level II Trauma Center, primary and specialty physician clinics, home health and hospice services, durable medical equipment services, a fitness and human performance center and ancillary services throughout western and central North Dakota.

Responsibilities

Works under the general supervision of the Clinical Coordinator Assistant Director of Surgical Services. The operating Room Assistant assists nursing staff in the delivery of individual patient care for patients assigned to the Unit, according to unit policies and procedures. Maintains standards of nursing practice, in accordance with the mission, values and philosophy of St. Alexius Medical Center. All the criteria-based duties and standards within this document will be performed according to the policies, procedures and guidelines of the Medical Center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs duties as delegated by OR Charge RN and reports back when tasks are completed.
  • Provides a safe, quiet environment.
  • Practices good infection control; maintains Universal Precautions.
  • Assists in keeping Operating Rooms clean orderly and well stocked.
  • Reports defective equipment to supervisor; transports to Bio-Med after appropriate paperwork has been completed.
  • Transports patients, verifying identity and correct location.

  • Qualifications

    High school student, graduate or equivalent.

    Experience: No previous experience required.

    Skills: Working knowledge of basic clinical skills in delivery of patient care.

    Basic Life Support Certification within 480hours of employment and meets recertification as required.

    Interpersonal Skills: Good Communication skills necessary because of constant communication, both oral and written, with patients, families, visitors and medical center staff.

    Accountable for own conduct and promotes and supports positive working relationships among staff, between other disciplines, departments, visitors and patients.

    Maintains confidentiality.

    Physical Effort: Medium: Sometimes involves a maximum physical effort requirement of 50pounds sometimes.

    Hours of Work: Rotating shift work or straight evenings or nights. Rotating holidays and weekends may be required.

    Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

    Other: Works under the following conditions: potential exposure to mechanical, chemical, electrical and infectious environmental hazards.
