Network and Systems Administrator I – 60019917

This position is located within the Division of Technology of the Department of Administration. Under limited supervision, the incumbent provides design, implementation, support and maintenance of servers and Enterprise Backup systems in the support to the Division of Technology’s internal and external customers. Assists with the support of VMware vSphere.

Performs lead system administration tasks for both Windows and Linux servers, including managing system security, performing software updates, installing operating systems, maintaining hardware, tuning systems for optimum performance, and the validation of system patching/system security utilizing reporting tools. Actively monitors server systems for replication, performance, network connectivity, and use.

Works with and guides the Application, Database, Windows Server, and Linux Server groups responsible for the support of enterprise applications in the installation, configuration, and set-up of application software. Performs backup administration duties to ensure all servers are protected by the enterprise backup system, data is replicated off-site, and restoration requests are satisfied. Performs other duties as required.

Minimum and Additional Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field and experience in the support of Intel based enterprise servers with Microsoft and/or Red Hat Enterprise Linux as the operating system; or an approved equivalence by the Division of State Human Resources regulations.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Extensive knowledge of VMare vSphere and virtualization technologies. Extensive knowledge with back-up and recovery scenarios to provide sufficient data protection and business continuity. A Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Certification is a requirement of this position. Failure to complete successfully will result in disqualification from employment. This position may require the incumbent to work from a remote location beyond the standard 37.5 hours/week and could include working nights, weekends, and holidays. Employee will be required to carry a State-issued laptop and cell phone for after hours contact. Position may also require overnight travel. Incumbent may be required to work during emergency or hazardous weather situations. Preferred Qualifications:

RHEL and MS certifications preferred.
