Stinger Ghaffarian Technologies (S G T) is seeking a Mid to Senior -level Linux/Unix Systems Administrator to join its talented Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) t eam in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. SGT, headquartered in Greenbelt Maryland, is the primary contractor to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for performing work at the Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center ( http://eros . usgs.gov/ ) near Sioux Falls, SD. ( http://ww w .siouxfalls.org )

Job Description:
The Linux/Unix Systems Administrator will join our talented TSSC Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) located at the USGS EROS Center. The primary responsibilities include installing, upgrading, and patching operating systems ; installing and configuring Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) packages ; installing and configuring virtual servers; perform ing training and assisting customers (internal and external) with OS / COTS / custom application support issues ; assisting with the installation / configuration / maintenance of RAID / SAN / storage units ; performing aspects of system security, including OS h ardening and patch installation; Applicant must be able to work independ ently or in a group environment, be capable of training users in applications, and writing documentation. This full-time position may require occasional travel.

Excellent communication skills and proven team work / building are required for this position. The candidate must be able to integrate with a team of highly skilled Systems Administrators and other Information Technology staff.

Required Skills: Provide Linux/ Unix systems administration support to maintain all systems in accordance with appropriate system requirements. Experience with Virtualization technologies, installing/configuring VMware; Creation, management, administration and maintenance of virtual servers and clients. Knowledge of network configuration and security on ESX Host. Knowledge to Maintain user configurations, user registrations, passwords, resources, and distribution lists. Investigate, provide analysis, and document assigned Configuration Change Requests (CCRs) in accordance with Project-approved Configuration Management (CM) processes. Provide for and ensure optimal technical operation, maintenance, and support of systems for robust and reliable performance. Oversee administration, installation, maintenance, and proper licensing of systems, including installation of server operating systems, patches, and upgrades. Install, configure, maintain, and periodically audit the Commercial Off-The-Shelf/Government Off-The-Shelf (COTS/GOTS) packages requested/required by the Project and update the system documentation accordingly. Proactively look for updates to COTS/GOTS packages and communicate or recommend updates to the appropriate staff. Ensure the integrity of data and ensure that backup recovery systems are reliable. Ensure that all systems and networks comply with USGS computer and network security requirements. Write and debug scripts and programs that enhance the utility of systems and provide effective user interface to other systems. Assist the Project with testing as necessary for software releases. Provide and maintain current documentation of UNIX systems, server configurations, administrative tools, and procedures for implementation/adaptation of products and services. Incorporate system modifications and upgrades into procedures and documentation.

Other Desired Skills: Exceptional customer service orientation . I dentify and understand client needs and ensure a result to customer’s requests. Scripting (bash, shell, etc.) VMware certification desirable , but not required . Knowledge of remote sensing and data archival processes desirable, but not required. Enterprise storage knowledge
