Marketing Communications Manager

Position Summary:

The Communications Manager is responsible for leading council communications while managing the design and creation of all communication materials. Additional duties include the development of public relations materials for special events, projects, and campaigns. The Communications Manager will work in conjunction with the Chief Marketing and Advancement Officer to ensure all materials developed protect and advance the brand of Girl Scouts of the USA and Girl Scouts—Dakota Horizons.

Major Accountabilities:

  • Construct internal and external communication protocols and plans under the direction of the Chief Marketing and Advancement Officer that strengthen the GSDH and Girl Scout brands.
  • Implement/execute initiatives and tactics for integrated council communication plan.
  • Oversee the development of council communication tools that strengthen the branding of Girl Scouts—Dakota Horizons.
  • Under the direction of the Chief Marketing and Advancement Officer, create and manage public relations, media and communication campaigns.
  • Collaborate with council staff and volunteers to ensure communications are cohesive and aligned.
  • Write, design and complete layout for digital materials and council campaigns to support council departments.
  • Manage council website and social media channels and engage consumers across platforms.
  • Plan and execute all web, SEO/SEM, email, social media and digital advertising campaign.
  • Ensure the recruitment, selection, training, supervision and evaluation of department interns/staff as needed.
  • Ensure output developed protects and advances the brand of GSUSA and GSDH in order to grow market share.
  • Strengthen relationships with all media to ensure the most effective messaging and positioning of the organization.
  • Work with departmental staff to prepare and schedule media interviews including TV and radio.
  • Lead all areas of content generation and production across all media platforms.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to create and utilize press releases, media kits and internal and external communication plans as needed.
  • Utilize strong analytical ability to evaluate end-to-end customer experience across multiple channels and customer touch points.
  • Collaborate with agencies and other vendor partners.
  • Contribute to budget preparation for the department. Successfully work within approved budget parameters.
  • Implement crisis management policies and procedures within area of responsibility.
  • Actively and consistently demonstrate the Girl Scouts norms and culture.
  • Other duties as assigned, including providing back-up support and assistance as business needs necessitate.

  • Bachelor’s

Required experience:

  • project planning: 1 year
  • communications, including writing, editing, proofreading and presentation: 2 years
  • managing website content: 2 years
  • Marketing Communications: 2 years
