Junior Cloud DevOps Engineer

Job Description and Duties:
As part of our Cloud Solutions team, our Cloud DevOps engineers are responsible to design and build high availability, high scalability, high reliability and cost effective cloud solutions for our customers.

Stratalux is looking for a Junior DevOps Engineer to join our Cloud Solutions team in El Segundo, CA. The Junior DevOps Engineer’s primary responsibility will be to create “Infrastructure As Code” solutions for our customers and advance internal engineering initiatives. This includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Develop and maintain reusable Chef recipes to provision and manage customer EC2 instances.
  • Design CloudFormation templates to automate the deployment of AWS infrastructure, including Security Groups, IAM Roles, S3 Bucket Policies, etc.
  • Create custom scripts and templates for our various monitoring tools, including Zabbix, Kibana and CloudWatch.
  • Write and maintain Jenkins jobs for various automation tasks.
  • Serve as second tier escalation point for our Cloud Operations Team.
  • Research and evaluate new AWS products as they become available.
  • Develop integrations between various components/services that make up the Stratalux Platform.
  • Obtain required AWS and CHEF certifications based on quarterly targets associated to Job Role
  • Be “on call”, as needed, after regular shift based on pre-defined, rotating “on call” schedule to include potentially select weekends and after hours’ weekday schedules

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations is a must
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Computer Science or Math background preferred
  • 2+ years Amazon Web Services experience
  • 2+ years Agile methodologies such as SCRUM
  • 2+ years of Linux server administration experience
  • 2+ years of Windows server administration experience
  • 2+ years PowerShell, Python, Bash, Ruby, Perl, Java or similar programming, scripting language
  • 2+ year experience with Chef or similar configuration management tool
  • Working knowledge of system management and monitoring tools like Zabbix / Nagios
  • Working knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle including version control tools such as GIT, CSV and SVN
  • Working Knowledge of IP networking, VPN’s, DNS, load balancing and firewalling

Desired Skills:

  • Chef Local Cookbook Development Badge is a plus
  • Associate level or higher AWS Developer certification is a plus
  • Associate or higher AWS Certified Solutions Architect is a plus
  • Associate or higher AWS Certified SysOps is a plus
  • ITIL – Foundation level or higher certification is a plus
  • Experience with Jira is a plus
  • Experience with Confluence is a plus
  • Experience working on a 24x7x365 Operations support team, Service Desk and/or Network Operations Center (NOC) is a plus
  • Experience with automated testing tools (i.e. Selenium, JMeter) is a plus
  • Experience with automated build scripts used for release management across all environments
  • Understanding of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA and REST)
