Hotel Accountant

JOB SUMMARY

The Hotel Accountant is responsible for all aspects of hotel financial statements within assigned group of hotels including balancing and transferring (ensuring accurate transfer of) revenue activity to the general ledger, bank statement and credit card reconciliations,
analytical review of account balances, timely and accurate preparation and dissemination of financial statements, and variance analysis (actual, budget, and prior period).

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure revenue information is timely received from hotels and accurately entered into the system.

• Identify, research, rectify, and report discrepancies in direct bill payments, credit card payments, cash receipts, cash deposits, etc. to the proper parties (i.e. general manager, area director, regional vice president, president of operations, manager of
hotel accounting, vice president of finance, planning, and anaylsis,CFO).

• Timely forward expense activity to general manager for review

• Timely reconcile local bank accounts; timely prepare and enter related journal entries.

• Analyze financial information for accuracy; identify anomalies and budget/actual/prior period variances; obtain adequate resolution from general manager prior to finalizing financial statements.

• Prepare and send summary of notable items to regional vice presidents manager of hotel accounting, and vice president of finance, planning, and anaylsis upon completion of the monthly analytical function.

• Monitor identified discrepancies until fully resolved; assist with corrective action as needed.

• Ensure financial statements are prepared in compliance with GAAP.

• Complete necessary research to respond to questions from various parties.

• Assist with Sarbanes Oxley activities relative to internal controls documentation and segregation of duties.

• Produce timely, accurate, and GAAP compliant financial records; complete required reports, reconciliations, and schedules.

• Assist in coordinating work related to internal and external audits and ensure agreed-upon audit recommendations are implemented.

• Assist in completing a variety of ad hoc initiatives, including but not limited to financial systems improvements, process enhancements, accounting structures for new business models and relationships, reconciliation diagnostics, and the like.

• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSURE & CERTIFICATION

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business; or equivalent combination of education and experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)

• Background in hospitality industry helpful

• Requires the ability to meet the demands of the work schedule, to be at work and on time. May occasionally require the ability to work outside of regularly scheduled hours. Schedules may vary based on business need.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

• Ability to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness, monitors own work to ensure quality and applies feedback to improve performance

• Proficient in Sun Microsystems a plus
