General Accounting Accountant (Accountant 2)

Job TitleGeneral Accounting Accountant (Accountant 2)LocationLos Alamos, NM, USOrganization NameCFO-GA / General AccountingWhat You Will DoThe Accountant 2 reports to the General Ledger Team Leader and is responsible for various moderate to complex general accounting activities which could include preparing and reviewing financial transactions; monitoring and recording banking activity; accounts receivable; property accounting; reconciliation and account analysis; and audit support. The Accountant 2 will participate and/or coordinate monthly closing activities including financial reporting in accordance with Department of Energy (DOE) requirements, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS). Strong organizational skills and demonstrated experience working as a team member in a high volume, and deadline driven environment. The selected candidate must be able to work outside a normal work schedule including occasional overtime and reliability and availability are a must.

What You NeedMinimum Job Requirements: Working knowledge of accounting and financial concepts and principles. Comprehensive knowledge of accounting and financial concepts and principles, plus working knowledge of related activities gained through specialized work experience. Advance knowledge and experience to interpret and apply GAAP and CAS; financial accounting and cost accounting; developing, interpreting and applying financial policies and procedures.Comprehensive knowledge of accounting systems with the ability to effectively analyze account activity across all accounting processes. Ability to identify process improvements and develop strategies and procedures to implement improvements.

Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to effectively present detailed and complex information in an understandable manner. Strong organizational skills and demonstrated experience working as a team member in a high volume, and deadline driven environment.Desired Skills: Experience with DOE financial reports in conjunction with provisions of the DOE Financial & Accounting Management Handbook. Experience with the DOE Standard Accounting and Reporting System (STARS) a plus.Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of five years professional level work experience in a general ledger or auditing environment.
