Summary: The responsibility of the Financial Education Program Specialist is to provide support to the Financial Education Program Coordinator, instruct financial education classes, and provide one on one financial coaching. This position will be required to work flexible hours, in a fast paced environment, and project a professional company image through in-person and phone interactions. This is a full time position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Develop and conduct financial education classes. Oversee participant performance at onsite financial education classes.

Provide one-on-one financial coaching for participants in Goodwill’s Financial Opportunity Center program. Assist participants with goal setting, budgeting, credit building/rebuilding, debt repayment, savings, utilization for quality financial services, and asset development.

Collect and verify all required data from participants throughout the program, including Combined Financial Assessment and Financial Profile. Assist in program reports preparation.

Identify and refer participants to other resources and services needed to achieve their financial goal. Identify, cultivate, and maintain relationship with key community partners.

Provide one-on-one employment coaching to graduates of Goodwill’s training programs that are enrolled in Goodwill’s FOC program. Assist participants with career goals, retention, and wage progression.

Assist with entering all necessary information for the financial education program into ETO database, the Goodwill Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) electronic case management system.

Maintain files and database for all coaching clients including the intake form, credit report, coach’s appointment notes, analysis and corrective action plan.

Network with community partner agencies to promote Goodwill’s Financial Education and Financial Coaching services.

Monitor participant progress toward financial goals. Follow up with participants on referrals to other financial service professionals when applicable.

Provide support, as needed, to other core programs including cross-training in other service areas. Assists with special projects as assigned and other tasks deemed necessary to achieve overall goals and to operate a successful program.

Attend Staff Meetings and necessary trainings.

QUALIFICATIONS: must be capable of relating to individuals with barriers to employment, including long periods of unemployment and limited work skills, and must be capable of working with staff members in a team approach; must have effective communication skills, verbal and written; performance must reflect compliance with the agency Ethics document and confidentiality of all discreet business; must establish rapport and good working relationships with co-workers in the department and agency.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Social Service is highly preferred; experience in working with persons with barriers to employment is highly preferred; some knowledge/understanding of behavioral economics and money management skills

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS Sheets), operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization; must be able to communicate effectively in written and oral format.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs; a bility to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions and percentages; ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft (MS) Word, Excel and PowerPoint; must possess knowledge of and skills to utilize MS software including basic spreadsheets and databases; Internet knowledge required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: a valid Washington State Driver’s license and proof of insurance is required; must be First Aid/CPR certified or willing to acquire such certification at first available opportunity.

Other Skills and Abilities: Must be capable of relating to individuals with barriers to employment and limited work skills; must be capable of working with staff members in a team approach; must have effective communication skills, verbal and written; must be capable of communicating effectively with participants, employers and referral sources.

Other Qualifications: Must be able to travel throughout the community during business hours.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and arms for normal dexterity; talk and hear; the employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, sit, climb, balance, and smell; the employee is regularly required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; specific vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: The employee is occasionally required to work in wet or humid conditions; near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; in outdoor weather conditions; in extreme cold and/or heat, and with vibrations; the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; work environments may be dusty.
