Finance Analyst – FIN0008796

A creative thinker with strong analytical skills who will understand complex business problems and determine system solutions. Must have an accounting or finance background with the ability to configure Hyperion Financial Management (HFM), Hyperion Planning and Essbase, and Financial Data Quality Management Enterprise Edition (FDMEE) functionality and partner with IT to provision new capabilities. The applicant will support day to day Financial Planning and Reporting (FP&A) processes. Additionally, will support GM’s system and process transformation initiative through the Consolidation, Planning & Reporting (CPR) project. This includes partnering with IT in the rebuild and upgrade of the existing HFM, Hyperion Planning, Essbase and FDM applications and integrating new technologies. Must work with high level of independent judgment and initiative, while being able to rapidly take on and assimilate work from existing team members when required.

  • Support the HFM, FDMEE, Hyperion Planning and Essbase systems for the Forecast and Budget processes.
  • Identify and configure changes to HFM and FDM for the budget and forecast processes, including application outline changes (inclusive of chart of accounts, entity/organization structures, etc.). Design changes to business rules as needed for new business initiatives and process changes.
  • Assist with and troubleshoot data loads between the HFM and Hyperion Planning applications.
  • Create reports and forms in Excel via Smart View.
  • Provide process and system support during forecast processes, inclusive of evening and weekend hours when required.
  • Coordinate real time support & communicate to impacted users when issues arise during forecast and budget activities.
  • Facilitate Extended Analytics reporting.
  • Develop and present data solutions to other members of the organization.
  • Solve problems and develop new/enhanced control procedures. Streamline existing business processes using LEAN methodology.
  • Partner with business teams to understand requirements of new business initiatives. Design and partner with IT to implement system solutions based on requirements.
  • Play a significant role in the CPR project, and input into the definition, proof of concept, design, test, and implement phases.
  • Prioritize current business initiatives, CPR deliverables, and planning / close support activities. Communicate reasonable and attainable deadlines.
  • Partner with IT team on technical solutions, infrastructure support and CPR project.
  • Cross train on the monthly close process in HFM and Essbase/Planning in order to fully support Actual and Forecast processes.
  • Understand data structure, data interfaces and how data flows from source systems to the consolidation system to the FP&A systems.
  • Develop standardized processes for application support. Document work steps necessary to achieve consistent results.
  • Support internal and external SOX audit processes.

Basic Skills and Competencies Required

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting, business administration, information systems, or equivalent experience.
  • 1 or more years of financial systems experience.
  • Hyperion Financial Management (HFM), Financial Data Quality Management Enterprise Edition(FDMEE).
  • Ability to interpret system logic in HFM rules, FDM scripts, business rules and Essbase calc scripts.
  • Complex problem solving and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to validate, analyze, and identify anomalies for a population of data.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated commitment to teamwork and partnerships.
  • Highly proficient Personal Computer skills and technology driven.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments/projects and multi-task within time constraints.
  • Willing to take on additional responsibilities, attend training, and learn new technical skills.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.

Additional Preferred Skills and Competencies

  • Hyperion Planning and Essbase.
  • Knowledge of General Motors’ chart of accounts and organization structures.
  • Knowledge of General Motors’ financial processes and technology.
  • Advanced Excel skills including vlookups, pivot tables, if / then statements, concatenation, nested functions and formulas. Ability to create other logic formulas with ease.
  • Experience in planning and deployment of global systems and/or processes.
