Federal – Accounting Specialist

The Financial Accounting Specialist will serve as a member of a large project team and will support the client’s financial improvement and audit compliance goals through a variety of work streams. The team member will have a strong background in performing audits of Federal agencies, including drafting work papers/white papers/NFRs, developing audit test plans, analyzing financial statements, and evaluating internal controls. The team member will be required to possess a working knowledge of financial reporting business processes, DoD accounting or auditing, internal controls, and financial management systems in support of our clients’ efforts to produce auditable financial statements. Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related business discipline

4 years of Federal accounting experience

4 years of experience performing financial statement audits on Federal agencies

Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Preferred Skills:
Participated in financial statement audit of US Coast Guard

Experience auditing or performing audit readiness functions (FIP, FIAR, FSTAR) for a DoD agency (ie Coast Guard, Navy, Army, Air Force, Marine Corps)

Basic understanding of DoD property (asset) management and valuation

DoD audit readiness (FIP / FIAR) experience (ie DLA, Army, USMC, USCG, Air Force, Navy, etc)

Preferred Certifications: Certified Government Financial Management (CGFM); Certified Defense Financial Management (CDFM)

Resource should have a working knowledge of GAAP, GAGAs Yellow Book audit standards

General understanding of accounting system processing and interfaces, specifically ERP systems

Experience performing audit functions, including test plan creation, internal control and substantive testing, and documentation of findings & recommendations for a government/commercial entity.

Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member

Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration in a professional setting; either military or civilian

Demonstrated leadership in professional setting; either military or civilian

A n active security clearance or the ability to obtain one may be required for this role.
