ETL Developer

This position will contribute to the Data Services department of Randall-Reilly. Seeking a Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft application developer with experience creating ETL systems with SQL Server Integration Services. Candidate must have 3-5 years of experience with SQL Server and SSIS.

Candidate must be able to hit the ground running with the following skills:

• A good knowledge of SQL (T-SQL or P-SQL).

• Understanding and experience developing data models.

• Data cleaning and manipulation.

• Participate in project/team meetings.

• Building, designing, tuning and maintaining ETL process i.e. SSIS.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about making clients successful, product development, committed to continual learning, focused on quality, and a dedicated team player.

As an ETL Developer, you will be responsible for helping design solutions that revolutionize how customers interact with their critical data applications and how these applications perform. Individual will have a real passion for design, a strong appreciation for data-centric design and automation, a love of technology and excellent communication.

    • Responsibilities:

      • Develop and maintain data warehouse and ETL (extract, transform and load) solutions to support TrialCard’s MicroStrategy Business Intelligence framework.
      • Develop best of breed data integration process to support client data services and internal application integration.
      • Monitor the performance of new and existing data integration services to ensure appropriate performance, to correct errors, to isolate areas for improvement, and for general debugging.
      • Critically analyze test results to correctly align development efforts with problem areas.
      • Assist in the preparation and documentation of software requirements and specifications, as they relate to the data warehouse and other data integration services.
      • Provide accurate time estimates and status reports to project management as required.
      • Work with database administrators, network administrators, systems analysts, and software engineers to help resolve problems with ETL and data integration service applications.
      • Consistently work independently and in a team-oriented, shared environment.
      • Any other tasks or projects as assigned by immediate supervisor.

      Qualifications:

      • College diploma or university degree in computer science / technical field, or equivalent work experience.
      • 3+ years of experience in SQL 2005/2008 database development, with an emphasis on data warehouse methodologies and technologies.
      • 3+ years of experience in an industry-standard ETL tool (SAP DI / Informatica / SSIS / Data Stage).
      • Knowledge of waterfall and rapid-application-development software development life cycles.
      • Excellent follow through and initiative, and ability to complete tasks accurately and on-time.
      • Strong verbal and writing skills, and the ability to communicate with technical and non-technical staff alike.
      • Familiarity with Word, Visio, Excel and MS project.
      • MicroStrategy experience preferred, but not required.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING :
Strategic

  • Evaluating and enhancing ETL and Data Quality standards, technologies and documentation approaches
  • Identifying deviance from standards, and suggest modifications to ensure compliance
  • Evaluating and implementing appropriate ETL and Data Quality technologies, and other business intelligence tools, to support timely, cost effective delivery of information
  • Encouraging and empowering others to achieve and create enthusiasm and a desire to excel;

Operational

  • Working with Implementation Project Teams and Client to determine individual Project ETL requirements and convert them to technical requirements
  • Developing and testing Extract, Transformation, and Loading (ETL) modules based on design specification
  • Identifying data discrepancies and data quality issues and working to ensure data consistency and integrity
  • Developing, deploying and maintaining ETL workflows for multiple data sources
  • Planing, testing, and deploying ETL mappings, and database code as part of application build process across the enterprise
  • Reviewing ETL workflows for performance and recommending process improvements
  • Documenting ETL data mappings and conversion rules
  • Writing technical and management systems reports, prepare data extracts
  • Responding to and resolving load failures and performance issues

YOU’VE GOT WHAT IT TAKES IF YOU HAVE:

  • 5+ years in ETL and Data Warehouse technology with experience in implementing large & complex projects using Microsoft technologies (SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, .Net and TSQL.)
  • 2+ years experience with healthcare claims data is preferred, but not required
  • The candidate should have very strong technical experience in the areas of data analysis, database design, ETL, and data governance.
  • Experience with data-driven testing approaches used in the Data Warehousing, OLTP and Business Intelligence.
  • Well-developed project management skills including project planning, estimation and release management
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to prepare and present reports to a range of audiences

The ETL Developer will be responsible for the scripts and processes required to extract, transform, clean and move data and metadata so they can be loaded into a data warehouse, data mart or operational data store. Reads, analyzies and digestes what the company wants to accomplish with its data, and designs the best possible ETL process around those goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Work with business requirements to identify and understand source data systems; provide resolutions to all data issues and coordinate with data analyst to validate all requirements, perform interviews with all users and developers.

Map source system data to data warehouse tables

Develop and perform tests and validate all data flows and prepare all ETL processes according to business requirements and incorporate all business requirements into all design specifications.

Define and capture metadata and rules associated with ETL processes

Adapt ETL processes to accommodate changes in source systems and new business user requirements

Collaborate with all developers and business users to gather required data and execute all ETL programs and scripts on systems and implement all data warehouse activities and prepare reports for same.

Provide support and maintenance on ETL processes and documentation

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or equivalent 2 years of experience working with large enterprise class Data Warehouse projects as an ETL Developer or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Experience working with Informatica PowerCenter 9.x or higher

Strong experience and passion for Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing design principles and industry best practices.

Experience in requirements gathering and creating architectural, detail design documents and mapping documents.

Experience with many of the transformations of Informatica including complex lookups, stored procedures, update strategy, mapplets, etc.

Skilled in developing Informatica objects – mappings, sessions, and workflows based on the prepared low level design documents.

Experience in debugging mappings and identifying errors and error rows so that they can be corrected and re-loaded into a target system.

Performance tuning of Informatica Mappings, processes, and load routines.

Experience with Data Integration Web Services, Data Quality, and Data Validation Option.

Analyze business requirements holistically and as they relate to the ETL process, research, evaluate and recommend alternative solutions.

Experience automating ETL processes with Informatica PowerCenter.

Ability to perform relational and multidimensional modeling and schema creation.

Development of cube dimensions, measure groups, calculations, and any data management code for the partitioning schemes.

Good understanding of XML and corresponding XSD’s.

Solid experience in database query/performance optimizations.

Ability to interact with other departments and business users who are not as technical in nature.

Ability to understand system functionality, process, and architecture at a technical and business level.

Experience with SQL Server, Oracle or DB2 in the areas of database administration, as well as schema design, database object development, management, optimization, and SQL programming

Proven communication and presentation skills to effectively communicate information to all levels within the organization, and to interact well in a team environment

Experience working with and planning projects of medium size or complexity Physical Requirements:

General office environment, ability to sit for long periods of time. Ability to move in the office.
